This is an appreciation thread for Jim Carey with an
emphasis on his distinguished work "Ace Ventura: Pet
Detective" (part 1) This man is an insane and creative
comedy genius.

i liked his 'in living color' days and his occasional
appearances on late shows.

Jim Carey is like U2 and George Bush. They are extremely
popular, yet, I have never actually met anyone who actually
admitted to liking them.

seriously. Liar Liar
good gott that was crap!

i think he is best when he "turns it down a notch" so to
speak. unfortunately he tends to turn it up to 11 if
allowed!

21 words in your face:

Bruce Almighty
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Me, Myself & Irene
Liar Liar
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

I think you'll find you have just been überpwn3d.

he has done a few good films, mainly "eternal sunshine of
the spotless mind" and "man on the moon" - the rest are okay
at best, absolutely crap at the worst.

He's good. I like him. I really liked him on Conan O'brien,
but he U2 and George Bush have one hell of a secret
following. Cause Ive never heard anyone say they liked them
in person

i really like Truman Show
*shrug*

on the other hand, "The Grinch..." ugg god. 10 minutes of
that was all i could stand!

I liked "the truman show", but almost instantly forgot about
it when the credits rolled. it just doesn't do much, which
is okay, but not great to me.

offline Rostasky from United States on 2004-12-20 15:32 [#01432219]

I don't like any of his movies. After I saw a couple of his
attempts at funny movies, anything serious that he did made
me feel like I shouldn't like it.

that was a crappy movie overall.

i think when we argue over jim carey, its certainly not
about whether or not he is a good actor, just whether or not
he is a funny motherfucker

yeah, not great i agree. but at least it showed that Jim
Carrey can do more than demonstrate eyebrow agility, and
make horse faces etc..

Truman Show was Jim Carrey's Dead Poet's Society if
you will.. will you ? will you!

roles suit him.

It was relaxing...you can go to the toilet without pressing
pause etc...

Liar liar was bad as was bruce thingy and ace ventura 2
etc...
Ace ventura was ok, fun and again relaxing...
the truman show had a similar effect on me as it did on
qrter and eternal sunshine was ace.

The best part of Bruce Almighty was the scene with Steve
Carell.

i laughed to tears in that scene, but didn't crack a smile
during any other part of that movie!

I think he can be pretty good, but I agree with Carl - only
when the director is very good.

same thing goes for Adam Sandler in "punch-drunk love".

offline Rostasky from United States on 2004-12-20 15:57 [#01432254]

Adam Sandler was funny for about two movies. Then the other
movies were all the same.

ok, I liked him in the cable guy, BUT, he would have been so
much better without the stupid lisp. He just goes a little
too far with the goofy factor.

Sandler sucks, yes, he's so college jock/stoner fan. Dave
Mathew fans like Sandler probably, BUT, I liked Anger
Management and Punch-Drunk Love. He's smart to choose films
that challenge his identity. Same with Carey, although, he
still can't contain himself.

his films may suck, but i hope he used those just as a
breakthrough and will from now on pick better roles..

jim carry on letterman last week or so was so spontaneous.
the crowd went silent and letterman asked if he was ok, it
seemed like he was having SEVERE breathing problems, they
almost went to a technical difficultly caption. but then he
pulled up his shirt and we was wearing an ab flexor on max
power. haha

See that the kind of stuff I love. I also enjoyed his spot
on Conan O'Brian when Dr. Steven Hawking called his cell
phone after he was trying to explain black holes and shit to
the audience.
