UK Christian Protesters Seek to Prosecute Gay Play

LONDON (Reuters) - A group of Christian protesters in
Scotland has called on police to prosecute a theater company
for blasphemy because it is putting on a play about a gay
Jesus.

"If there is a blasphemy like this, Christians have to stand
up," said Stephen Green of Christian Voice who protested
outside a theater showing Terence McNally's controversial
play "Corpus Christi" at St Andrews University.

"Jesus Christ is being portrayed here as a foul-mouthed,
drunken, promiscuous homosexual and that is an insult to my
faith," Green told BBC Radio.

But the play's director, Zsuzsi Lyndsay, defended the
production: "He is not portrayed as a drunken foulmouth. He
doesn't say one bad word throughout the play."

Christian Voice was not placated. It has formally lodged a
complaint with police, arguing that the American
playwright's work was blasphemous. No decision has been
taken yet.

that's just silly.

the largest political party in the Netherlands was trying to
push through the idea that blasphemy would be easier to
punish in the future, just a few weeks ago.

needless to say, we all had a laugh and a good time was had
by all.

Legaly they may have a chance under Hate Crimes Legeslation.
But it would be my guess would be that the judge would say
that "If you find a plays subject offensive, don't watch
it". The plays producers would have to have a disclaimer,
"Some people may find this play offencive....."

If the case was found in favour of the Christians there
would be a better case against them in a counter suit and
they would be open to "deformation and hate crimes"
themself.

If Jesus is gay it's because when he ascended into heaven
and united with the father and the holy spirit, he all of a
sudden had memories of getting Mom pregnant and it turned
him into a gay serial killer.

My logic on this point is irrefutable.

Hey, big deal, they are protesting. If it was a gay muhammed
the cast would have been dead by now.

except that it still doesn't answer the main question,
whether jesus is gay or nay.

This is true. But it's kind of like pointing out that cancer
is worse than dysentery - ideally you'd prefer to have
neither.

Oh come on. Even before he gained the memory of boinking his
mome he wore a dress and preferred the company of men. And
his death is one big gay BDSM fantasy - getting whipped and
beaten by sweaty muscular Romans.

I get a juvenile thrill out of seeing Christian groups get
all wound up about things. Like in the US when they all go
mental about Maralyn Manson coming to town :)
