The Crusades

Hello,

I have a history essay due in tomorrow. Unfortunately, I
have missed a lot of lessons, so I lack key information
needed to answer the question. I'd really appreciate it if
any of you knowledgeable in the crusades could offer
evidence and events that support or disagree with the
statement the question is centered around, so I can use and
analyze the information in this essay.

The question is: How far did the first crusade owe its
success to the religious zeal of its supporters?

I am aware of a few examples of secular reasons and
religious motivations for crusaders and crusade leaders, but
not nearly enough for the essay. I know threads like this
are a pain in the arse to reply to, but PLEASE HELP if you
can! Even a bit of help and input would be greatly
appreciated.

i think people just did what the pope thought was the right
thing to do..even if it meant killing people. religion is
awesome.

The motivation for the first crusade was for financial gain
the fact that "the enemy" was in the Holy Land and non
Christian was used as a rational for Church funding, who saw
this as an investment themselfs. It also made recruiting
easier as most of the officers were the sons of nobility.

I am sure that your lecturer is attempting to draw a paralel
with the current Iraq conflict/occupation....

Somehow I don't think Xltronic "opinions" are gonna have a
positive effect on his history essay.

i've taken the liberty of writing your entire essay for
you:

The Crusades 6/12/04
by CS2x

The crusades were a really fun time. There were crusaders
and there were Indians. But really, the Indians weren't
from India at all, so now they're called Native Americans.
There was a lot of fighting. Both crusaders and Indians
fought each other.

There was a lot of blood in the crusades. Mostly, it was
blood that came out of people. Jesus also had blood that we
now drink at church. We also eat his body. He is
delicious. Some of the blood also came out of animals. But
not horses, because they ran away.

In conclusion, the crusades were very violent, bloody,
dangerous times. I would not like to live there. There was
also a Black Plague. That's the stuff that gets on your
teeth if you don't brush them. I hate the crusades. The
End.

hehehhe....

Yeah I posted it here, because while I can get info off
google, I cannot get views which use that information to
support one angle or the other of this question.
