hide desktop icons, so that desktop lkooks clean and after
pointing mouse curson on left/right side shows panel with
all icons on it.

i need more - i can hide icons, but i saw a software that
makes one hidden tollbar with all desktop icons. tollbar
remain hidden until you scrtoll mouse to edge of screen,
then it shows so you can pick an icon.

i need something like this.

do you use the taskbar?

-Right click on the taskbar, make sure 'lock the taskbar' is
unticked
-go to toolbars> tick 'desktop', it'll create a desktop item
in the taskbar somewhere
-drag it to your desktop to detach it then move it to the
desired side of the screen
-right click, enable 'auto hide'

Then you just need to disable the desktop icons by going to
display properties> desktop> customize desktop> unticking
the boxes at the top of the general tab.

Yes, you have found the shorter way of doing it which I
intentionally did not mention to see if anyone would point
it out. Congratulations... you passed MY LITLE TEST.

you could take what's behind the 'sooperhardcore' curtain
and replace the windows shell entirely with litestep;

you can get a really minimal, tweakable desktop with it,
albeit with an awful lot of fucking around with linuxstyle
config files. if you have a slow computer and don't tweak it
properly it's a bit of a donkey though.
