so, i'm on a cable connection and one of the modem lights for either sent or received data is nearly always blinking non stop, up to the point where it just stays lit without blinking.
this happens as soon as the computer has booted up. Sometimes i think this may prevent me from getting online, but now i am online, as it is still lit. Either way, i want it to fucking stop. When i click 'stop all traffic' in kerio firewall, nothing happens. When i pull out all the cables, even for longer periods of time, and reboot the computer, nothing changes.
Now i'm no expert, but i know theres this thing called netstat which lets you look at your connections. Of course i would have no idea how to read it, but i thought it should be useful anyway. So i run the program, it appears for a bout 2.5 seconds and then disappears without warning or whatever.
I run spybot, system mechanic, ad aware and mcaffee virus scan on a regular basis.
What other ways are there to check my system for unwanted connections etc. ?
Do i have to contact my ISP and if so, what do i ask/tell ?
thanks a bunch

it asks me to sign into hotmail, which i cant.
anyway, if you want to use netstat you have to run it from the command prompt, not just type 'netstat' straight away
do: start -> uitvoeren -> cmd
there, type "netstat |more"
(thats the thing above the \ on my keyboard)
also: try pulling out all cables that go to the computer. if only the send led keeps blinking for some time, you might be fucked

[triple post]
its not abnormal for the lights to blink like shit tho, especially when you are using msn or some other messenger, running a p2p program or browse the web.

Depends on the sort of blinking though. It could just be normal internet traffic. You're always transferring data even if it's just a small amount.

Right-Click the icon in the top left of the DOS box, choose Mark and you've got commands there so you can copy and paste text to and from the DOS box

it's blinking like MAD. sometimes even so fast its permanently lit. while the other light rarely blinks.
its the transmit LED btw.
i just checked netstat and i dont see anything suspicious there. now i've got a prob with kerio firewall though. i cant get online anymore when its active. so i set everything that was set to 'deny' to 'ask' but it doesnt ask me shit when i open my browser :|
oh well at least i'm online now.

This won't help: control panel - modems - change the speed or change some other option. Maybe use a program called everest to make sure you have the right modem driver. Maybe do a cold boot, or complete reformat. My lights have a problem of not blinking for too long unless I'm continually opening new pages, then just disconnecting.

I maybe used the wrong term but just mean turn your computer completely off for 10 seconds then back on, which won't help at all. Maybe right click my computer, properties, device manager, then "remove" the driver for the modem, then restart the computer, after which it should recognize the driver is missing and reinstall it.

yikes... maybe you should buy a new cheap modem card on ebay first in case (make sure it comes with the driver), since if it fails, you'll be limited to cards in stores. Or better yet, take someone else's advice.
