i have recentley purchased an ipod. itsverynice but i can't
do anything about the "gaps" in between tracks, and its
pissing me off something rotten. if i didnt love it so much
i'd jump on it. anyone know how to solve this problem?

(yes i've changed the settings but even on "no gap" there's
a g a p )

:(

using itunes."

there's nothing wrong with your iPod. the gaps are due to
the mp3/aac compression, where a bit of silence occur in the
beginning and end of the file.

i think ogg supports gapless encoding, but that doesn't help
you much, now does it?

hmm, you'd think they could make a $400 music playing device
skip the coding caps. Maybe that's too much to expect of
Apple macintoshorz

Perhaps you made welt change his mind about purchasing this.
I think he was expressing that.

Anyway i would have broke that in a fit of anger most likely

not being a smartass but "return it" and "buy something
else" came to mind.

yeah, i have one and i got used to the gaps. i rarely listen
to whole albums on it and skip like hell to find a good song
(i rock the random song option, usually). but when i'm
listening to mixes (that's the only time i get annoyed by
the gaps) i just merge the whole mix-cd into one big file,
encode it, and play that.

I have a 3g and there is a gap but it's only really
noticeable if I listen out for it. If it's seriously bad on
yours, you might be best merging the mp3s before you put
them on.

I've got 5 gigs on my 40gig 4G. Thats over two days of music
and its only 1/8th of my total ipod space. Boner!

I want a free mp3 player, but I don't want to be a camwhore,
and I probably should spend my money on like, books or
something. So I signed up on www.freeipods.com, were you
just sign up at, complete a free trial offer (as long as you
remember to cancel at the end) and get 5 of your friends to
complete a trial offer. Then, they send you an iPod. I
thought it was sketchy at first, but then a friend of mine
got his in the mail...so I read the TOS, thought it sounded
fine, so I am giving it a shot. If you're interested, please
click my link and be my 5th referral! If the link doesn't
work, just copy and paste:
http://www.freeiPods.com/?r=12228546

I signed up to do the blockbuster dvd thing, which is
probably easiest, since then I can just not add any dvds to
my queue and cancel after 2 weeks.

I only got two people to sign up.

If it works for you I'm gonna hate myself for being a
failure.

I can't say I noticed this gap that often. It happens more
when you've got it on random on all your tracks. But if
you've got an album playing then maybe the first track will
have a gap after it but then it's cool.

no i've never tried it. it's just supporting one of the
evils in the world known as 'free' things.

i'm sure you'll be getting a lot more junk mail and spam
though.

yeah, i recycle though. plus i am using my old email
account, so it shouldn't be a problem. and telemarketers
can't call me anyways; i don't have a land line. so all in
all, good deal i think. i probably can't count on getting
mine for a couple months though, but still, pretty good for
free.

I'll contribute a bit to it, if they want....

I don't trust "free" things. :)

isn't it true that when the internal battery in the ipod
eventually dies out there ain't fuck all you can do about
it? (unless you wield a mighty mean soldering iron)

No. There is a new battery to be bought, or you can send it
to apple to get it fixed. But it's cheaper to do it
yourself
