Hi danbrusca!

From previous posts you seem to be very reflected when it
comes to political issues and such - have you any idea why
Bush is winning? Is it some kind of protest against the rest
of the world having the nerve to tell them who to vote for
president? Do you think that is a factor at all, if you get
my drift here?

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2004-11-03 04:43 [#01380884]

No, I'm British, not American :)

For what it's worth, I don't see Bush's win as being the
result of a protest at all. I don't think that the kind of
people who voted for Bush give a damn what the rest of the
world thinks of them.

I think it has to come down to the
security/terrorism/war/fear issue, combined with a hefty
dose of religious evangelism. Take an enemy, blow the threat
from that enemy out of all proportion to reality, wrap it in
the flag and claim that god is on your side. It appeals to
people's fear, patriotism and religiosity, a powerful yet
simplistic combination.

I'm somewhat surprised and disappointed that so many
Americans have bought into it though. The world is a much
darker place this morning and it's not going to get brighter
for at least another 4 years.

Good point! I fear that in four years the key word will be
"irreversible" - and Bush will be given a third period
behind the wheel.... ANGST!

Some people think Bush will be slightly more moderate over
the next four years - I don't!

I can't believe it looks like Bush is going to get a second
term as President. It's fucking ridiculous and makes America
look like a fucking moronic country.

Why don't the CIA do a Kennedy on the cunt and take him in
an open top car through Dallas.....

The world would be a happier place.

Are you guys actually surprised? I saw this coming a mile
away. I think Kerry did a poor job campaigning. He focused
too much on his Vietnam crap and contadicted himself too
much.

Just right there i knew he wasnt winning.

yeah, it went about how i thought it would. it's just a
jagged pill to swallow.

kerry was a really weak candidate. it was never really
about him at all. i knew of very few people who were
actually enthusiastic about him, even they ones that were
sure they would vote for him. this was an election about
bush vs. not-bush.

Which makes it all the more tragic that Bush believes he's
doing the work of that particular imaginary being.

So is the general consensus that Bush is going to take this
election? Right now it looks like it could go either way,
mathematically, but it sounds like a lot of people are
conceding defeat. I haven't really been paying watching CNN
or anything, so update me.

I screamed something similar when listening to a phone in on
the radio this morning. Arnie pushed me over the edge when I
heard a soundbite of him saying that by voting for Bush
people were voting for fiscal responsibility. Made me wonder
if I had woken up in an alternate reality where Bush hadn't
turned a budgetary surplus into a record deficit.
