I remember when I first joined, it was all threads about how
the board had gone downhill (hopefully that was mere
coincidence). I miss those days.

loads of newcomers here lately...... are you telling me how
to run this board? you've been a member for a week.

btw, it seems like you ALL have forgot...
multiple accounts = permanent ban
consider that before you start whining on unfair bans...

there are loads of SHIT going on behind the stage... things
you don't know anything about.

Why are mods above reproach, may i ask? They're hardly
democratically chosen. I must add that i really do
appreciate the site being here and all that, i've made some
fine friends here. But the atmosphere does seem a little bit
orwellian at the moment.

No, i really do understand that a lot of time and money go
into the whole xltronic thing, i set up a paypal account
only the other day to contribute in fact before all this
business started happening. And as i say:

"i really do appreciate the site being here".

I just think that the New Strictness is not improving the
board's atmosphere. And when a new moderator bans three or
four people on their first day, deletes posts and thread by
the bucketload and so on, there's bound to be a bit of
fallout.

don't be so dismissive. You aren't addressing what people
are really saying, which is that the mods and admins have
completely lost touch with the board and its members (not
all, but most).

I temp banned one person, and cleared out a whole load of
shit topics. As to the strictness, I've always been of the
opinion that it always been the same rules here. There
really hasnt been any change, apart from some of the members
that trash the place.

I think Chris is an OK guy :)

But banning people for talking shit? Well then you might as
well ban the rest of this board. The rules only apply to
certain situations? People talk shit all the time here. It
happens but people get over it (except for tibbar, poor guy)

offline Jedi Chris on 2004-11-02 15:19 [#01380364]

I think some of the 'haters' out there are perhaps under the
impression that I'm the sort to just ban and close anything
I like out of spite or revenge, but thats not the case.
Whether or not you believe it or not thats your own personal
problem. But I know what Phob expects of this place from the
members, and I know what he expects of his moderators, and
I'll do whatever is expected of me, regardless.

i know this might sound new to you, virginpusher, although
it's been in the FAQ for three years:

quote from the FAQ:
Can you really ban me?
Of course we can. If we find you annoying, destructive for
the mb or behaves in a "bad" way - then we won't hesitate to
ban you.

Ah, i thought the jedi knight was responsible for more of
the bannage. And yes, i did see the fucking shitload of
nonsense threads, and yes, it wasn't even remotely funny.
Mind you, i still believe that the atmosphere of, uh, "fun"
has changed around here in the past couple of days.

People feel threatened, and to be honest, i'm one of them.
There's been a lot of (pretty unneccessary in my opinion)
post-deletion. The permissive atmosphere of xltronic is one
of the main reasons i stick around. Why start deleting
things? I think we're all adult enough to make our own
judgements on what people say. A lot of the posts deleted
yesterday were nowhere near "non-worksafe" or whatever, just
a bit pissed-off.

There's still a lot of music discussion, a lot of
interesting discussion, and a lot of in-joke "fun etc". I
ask you seriously not to let the element of humour be a
ban-worthy offence. The regulars have been here long enough
to realize that stupid trolling and nonsense threads are
indeed worthy of reprimand, but when it comes to deleting
posts to preserve the "idea" of xltronic, something has gone
awry.

I don't mean to be a knob here, the amount of time and money
that goes into xltronic probably exceeds my ideas by quite a
large amount, but i don't think it's a good thing when
regulars here feel have cause to feel paranoid about posting
even their most innocuous opinions concerning the board or
other members, lest the banZ0r come into play. Don't let an
"idea" of a perfect music board dictate what gets posted.

Phob makes the rules, abide by them and there is no problem.
He's not a monster, but as you said there has been a lot of
crap lately in the past few days. Put yourself in his
position, it takes effort to clean up the crap, and it
probably pisses him off. So from a point of view of being
threatened, if you play by the rules, you've got nothing to
worry about.

EggyWabbs certainly did make a good point - part of the
problem has been the bad moderation the last few months.

then to suddenly crack down on people sends out a very
agressive and menacing message, even to the people who have
done nothing wrong.

there are subtler ways to deal with this problem.

and I do agree with tolstoyed - we need moderators who are
more in touch with the people who visit this board, of which
xceque and Ophecks seem good examples, and you, I'm afraid,
are not.

"Crap" is an awfully relative term. I don't think anyone
would argue against the opinion that 100-odd threads
entitled "qrter=wanker" constitute "crap", but there really
has been an atmosphere of pretty nasty paranoia around Dese
Here Parts lately, and i think it's at least in part due to
the turbo-level of post deletion.

The implied "strictness" is making people very, very aware
of the things they do and say, at a level waaaay below the,
uh, "unnacceptable" or whatever. Which is pretty far from
the communal spirit of the board in my opinion.

The spirit of fun is rapidly leaving xltronic, and it's
making people sad and mad and bad. It sucks, basically.
