Richard Devine is god.

Hey,

How comes Richard Devine doesn't get more recognition? I
just got his 2 albums and his E.P Lipswitch, and I think
he's fucking increadable.

I know nobody would agree here, but I think he's ahead of
Autechre and others in the whole sound-manipulation/alien
structures area of music, as well as his stuff being darkly
atmospheric and immensely complex. He even used nine
computers and 5 custom built analog synths to write one of
his tracks!

Check him out.

9 computers? WHY?!

i got lipswitch btw, it's pretty good but could do with some
more variation imo

He tries to hard, to no avail.

Well some avail, but not that much.

What do you mean, no avail!?

His music is mind-fucking, original, atmospheric and
bizzarely funky...with some out-of-this-world sounds to
boot. What more could you ask for?

I really like Richard Devine but he doesn't have the
emotinal aspect as much as autechre do (in my onion).
Anyway I am off to have a burger with fried opinions.

emotional aspect ?? fuck man listen to corina chirac of
asect-desect !!

why doesn't he get more recognition ? because he's
boring...
i mean i listen to him now for some time, and most of his
songs are exactly the same...

the same effects and everything.

going so fra that i listen to asect-desect only to the 5
song... after that it's the same

okay - you are right in this case. but i think that most of
his songs sound very similar. the same samples etc., the
same techniques

i absolutely love Asect:Dsect, but 5 computers? and for 1
track? if this album was released in 1995 I'd completely
understand...but now? ummmm...maybe he could give away 2 or
3 computers to some bums or die-hard fans or something, I'm
sure the quality of his music won't suffer

You have to understand exactly what he was doing to
understand why he used so many...but sadly you just wouldn't
"get it"...you are probably a listener of "UDM".

Peace my brother.

richard reminds me of otto von schirach - but richards music
is much more mature. otto is just funny

I don't know why he uses so many computers-there's one that
controls the others, one used for final mixdown, etc...

I think his music is meant to be cold and futuristic and
alien sounding rather then "emmotional."

his best song is an autechre rip off anyways, off of
lipswitch; generally his stuff sounds intricately boring as
hell......i just don't really care.

in most cases, strip away the dsp trickery and you have some
goofy sounding drum tracks.

guess what happens when you do that with autechre.
I dig richard too. maybe it all does sound a bit the same.
but you can say the same about autechre.

ae evolved a lot, creating new sounds/processes on each
release, their sound has always been different (though they
haven't explored many different directions as autechre). who
knows what their solo/'side' stuff is?

He has a style, and I don't care if some of his stuff gets
samey-it's still captivating.

"in most cases, strip away the dsp trickery and you have
some
goofy sounding drum tracks"
--That's ridiculous, the same could be said for lots of
artists! The whole point is you can use DSP trickery to
program complex sounds/beats out of anything!

If Devine changed his techniques on every album we wouln't
have Asect:Dsect and that would be a real shame because it's
a great album. You see, Asect is basically an upgraded
version of Lipswitch. Actually, don't even listen to
Lipswitch anymore, you have version 2.0 (Asect!), and when
version 3.0 is out...Asect, like Lipswitch, is obsolete!

Aleamapper is very different to both those releases so I
don't agree.

He's done an EP and an album which are similar, and
Aleamapper which is far darker and less beat orientated.

G3, C64 & a P4 2.4ghz..... this sounds like the kind of crap
I've been used to hearing about Aphex over the years.

I like Richard Devine. Sometimes his stuff can get a bit
masturbatory, but beside that, I enjoy his music quite a
bit. His live show is quite an experience.

"8000 BC" by Otto Von Schirach is great. I would like to
hear what "Global Speaker Fisting" sounds like, but
unfortunately, Asphodel LTD don't believe in doing their
jobs.

Phoenecia have to be my favorite from the Schematic crew,
though.

lame artwork, but i guess if you like robotic dolphin's it's
all right...

Phoenecia...what do they sound like? I'm interested into
getting into more music that sounds like this.

While I do ENJOY Autechre more then Devine a lot of the
time, I still think he is technically superior.
