Unless it's base 1! then it doesn't exist!

base 1 can't be binary you fool. but base 1 can represent
the number 0, which it could be argued doesn't exist, but in
another more accurate way does.

CAN'T. Charles Babbage sent me a letter Ada Lovelace sent
him which informed me that, whilst she loved the way he
tongued her bean, there was no way she could agree with him
that binary could be anything more or less than a numbering
system based on nothing more than the values of 0 and 1 in a
base 2 stylee.

0 is the additive identity!! Were it not to exist,
everything would be ruined!!!!!!

hey check out the ruby language sometime. If you're
considering php, I'm considering punching you.

I won't because I haven't looked over the language--no
formal opinion yet. I saw some code written in it and felt
sorry because it looked identical to java (including
nuance).

You can write anything in any language, so in the end it
just comes down to convenience and execution speed. If
you've got these both in sea-shell or whatever that fancy
crap you use is, then hell yeah!

I saw a list of additions for 2.0 and my interest is piqued,
so I'll take a look sometime.

It's not really an excellent choice on linux (yes there's
mono blah blah), so I haven't really looked into it.. and of
course there's that I-just-got-raped feeling with all
microsoft stuff, whatever.

^^^^ logorrhea

I find the Linux is free blah blah blah Microsft is shit
because they make so much money blah blah blah arguements,
when most of the motherfuckers have a ton of cracked
Microsoft software on their own home computers and have
never paid for an MS product in their life.

I quite like programming in C#. When I start working again
I am going to be focusing on B2B web services because I
already have at least one prospective client lined up worth
quite a good bit of money, so the more practise I get the
better :)

The first 10 linux people I met at my uber-elite blah CS
school were total tools, and didn't know their shit either.
I abhor microsoft vs. anything arguments in general, but
specifically this language one is poignant because I know of
some rather powerful minds which were hired to construct
java, and then MS just took all their work and called it
.NET. Maybe they're doing it better, maybe the next version
is unrelated, but I'm just saying the initial step was a
little weird, very lazy, manipulative, and not a little
stupid.

But I _will_ look at it some time. I've become a real
language asshole, so..

good luck on that job when it happens! I have a low paying
but mentally rewarding research job lined up for next
semester..

each OS has it's place....i probably wouldn't be working or
remotely in IT right now if it wasn't for windows and the
big "push" but on the otherhand they are ruthless
cuntrags...money can't get you everything and they are
slowly learning that.

...hopefully my government will too (soon)

Just look at java, then look at C#/.NET.

I've used debian for about 5 years, linux for ~10

sneak, you know the main purpose of .NET is to bring
together all languages, right? It works pretty well ... but
man talk about a blind jump into it.....M$ killed the
marketing on .NET; totally fuked it up but hey ... not that
i really want it to excel or anything, kek

so im trying to have you explain it to me here.

Not really, I have been more involved in system migration
over the past couple of years, but before I took my break I
was involved with network based application development, and
fancy working in that direction.

Letting languages interoperate more easily is definitely
cool. If you want to see a similar push with unix scripting
languages, take a look at parrot (not just scripting
languages even--had a C compilation engine last I checked).

Most languages have easy ways to make calls from other
languages though, and usually you wrap the calls to match
the current languages paradigms, so just allowing the calls
isn't really enough..

I love programming. I had to learn java recently for some
classes, and won't really use it for any of my own stuff,
and initially was miffed by lots of things, but I do respect
a lot of the careful design that went into it. It's a very
safe language, whereas my mentality is "here's a length of
rope. It's up to you whether you hang yourself or bind
something".

logorrhea is my new nickname.

I'm almost done with computer engineering/electrical
engineering degree, and do global network eng. right now and
look forward to ASIC design hopefully within 5years.

That's my goal. Hopefully I can stick to it.

Programming, meh ... I suck at it (no real motivation for
it) dunno why? Glad I found out I don't like it early on,
though.

Everyone's using java now. Most/all of my cisco/nortel apps
are all java based.. hp open view also

The shit I was working on is all Java now, it was a big
project migrating about 2000000 accounts from an old OpenVMS
VAX system across to Sun Starcat servers and having the old
and new systems running in parallel for 2 years. I don't
like computers though.
