my ignorance worries me

Points: 31271 Status: Lurker

I am 28, which means I am older than 90% of people here

so I should have more experience in life and all that... but
I dont

but above all what I see is how much ignorant I am compared
to most of you, being most of you a lot younger than me

I know nothing about music compared to people here

but I notice my ignorance when it comes to literature,
cinema, art in general (painting, sculpture, graphic
design...) and of course in all the music making related
things

I only know about architecture, and not really much

I am an ignorant... and I am tired of that

I notice this cos I see that most of the times I have
nothing interesting to add to a thread

dont be fooled.

people look more intellegent then they are... for all you
know, these people ONLY know about music, and nothing else.

see? That looked kind of intellegent, but Im an idiot.

proof.

I feel a lot like that. But I did feel a bit better when I
just admitted to myself that I am a bit stupid. I used to
read books and books, i used to study art, i loved fim...
now I don't give a toss, I've lost interest. I blame the
internet. Suddenly you realise everyone's got their own
miserable opinion about everything, noone can agree on a
simple point (look at Elusive managing to confuse everyone
as to what binary is, one of the simplest things in the
universe), and there's just loads of stuff out there and at
the end of the day none of it makes any difference or
answers any of the fundamental questions like "What the fuck
are we doing here?". So I just drink and eek out a living as
the world's 13678th worst designer trying not to worry about
being of no use to mankind whatsoever.

Architecture isn't easy Nachito, you don't get to be an
architect if you're a dullard.

I know what you mean nachivator, there's a frighteningly
large amount of creativity out there, and i'll bet not one
of us will ever come across even 0.01% of it. It's
frustrating. I guess the only thing to do is read up, go to
galleries, buy the wire, go to independent cinemas, all that
krazy krap. It's tiring but inspiring.

about architecture so there you go, i am ingorant in that
respect, we are all are about something. no one knows

it's not like you were poor, ugly or stupid... if you think
you're ignorant you can always learn! : )

it takes time, sure, but if you're interested enough, you
won't notice the time. there are many ways to learn, search
the internet, buy records or books, go to museums etc...

the only problems could be lazyness (i'm not sure what you
can do about that...), lack of time (but seeing the number
of posts you have here, you must have enough time ^^) and
lack of interest (if you're not interested, just quit it and
try something else?).

well, actually there can be a fourth problem: how to get the
stuff if you can't find/afford it, culture isn't free and
everything isn't so easily downloadable : /

for example i lack a lot of cinematographic culture but i
don't feel like paying 25€ per dvd for every movie i'd
like to see but haven't seen before and not being sure i
would like it... and every movie doesn't air all the time on
tv, plus i lack disk space for divx's... so i privilegiate
music

I am tremendously ignorant in terms of modern history mostly
due to the fact that I have changed educational systems
thrice. I want to correct this.

Don't worry about it nacho. I'm jealous as hell of your
architectural knowledge. I would have loved to study it...

things I want to do and I am going to do:

read more books:
I read one or two a year... I have to read one a month at
least

read the newspaper: not only the sports section

last time I read a book that didn't have anything to do with
computer science (my field) was probably over 4 years ago.
Now that I have more time (finished studying) I'm going to
read a lot, especially the french classics which I have
neglected for longer than I care to think....

You're studying architecture, some of us are doing nothing
of importance, not doing anything that interesting I'm not.
You probably don't have time to accumulate as much knowledge
as some some shut ins that know a lot of obscure, worthless
noise rock acts! And it doesn't matter anyway, nothing
really matters except what you're doing, not what you're not
doing.Fuck it, you've got many decades ahead to ''catch
up'', if you feel you need to. But there's no need,
ignorance is one of the last words I associate with you.

Just because you don't think you read as much as other
people doesn't make you lesser. You should do what you feel
comfortable with. Not what you feel is expected to be part
of a group. You know you're well repsected here whether you
read the same books or know as much as other people. Hell
you far surpass me in AFX and æ knowledge mate.

Admit you aren't as good as me, then realise nobody is,
which means you are no better or worse than anyone other
than me, which you are worse than. The path to
enlightenment is simple logic.

i don't think it's a good idea to tell nacmat he's not
ignorant if he really is. none of us can actually know how
ignorant he is.

nacmat, only u (on here) can know whether you really are
ignorant or if you're just having a blue time and thinking
misguidedly. but in case you're really ignorant (no matter
how much/few): 1st it's a good thing that u know it. 2nd you
can either learn, or accept your ignorance. nobody's
perfect. if you lack knowledge there's necessarily things
you're better than most people at.

then again i don't know u at all.

Everybody (except me) is ignorant in some area or another.
It is impossible to know everything (unless you are me).
99% of the so called most intelligent people in the world
are also 78.4% of the best blaggers and liars.
