Katamari Damacy

Amazing. I suggest you check this ps2 game out. It's a
weird one.

linky

You control a ball and as you roll over items that are
smaller than you, they stick to the ball. As the ball grows
bigger with the items you've picked up, you can pick up
larger items. You are capable of picking up anything in the
stage, if you are large enough. It's madness.

does it have any replay value? or do you not want to play it
again after you beat it?

Best soundtrack I've heard for a while. It ranges from pure
vocal tracks (like the main theme) to electronic shit that
has a nice mego-pop aesthetic.

It starts getting good when your ball is larger scale, like
rolling up buildings and whatnot.

just play it on autechre's ps2. you know it's what they're
really doing behind those giant machines from dr. who that
they use to perform music.

This is a terrific game, one of my few favorites on ps2. It
has lots of replay value I think because a) it's non-linear
(Even though the levels are laid out the same each time you
play them, the number of possible combinations of routes
navigating them are immense so it's never the same game) b)
even though can be fun simply in a toy-like-way, there's
also extra tasks such as getting the katamari past a certain
size. Even after that, you can always compete with your own
largest sizes. There are 10 levels, each increasing in both
the size scale (first one= pencils etc size, last one=
building size) and time you have to reach the required size.
So yeah, you generally have a time limit of around 10
minutes before the game will just end; you can't just keep
going forever. There are also 10 (I think) different levels
where your goal differs; instead of reaching some size you
have to collect as much as possible of one certain item, or
sometimes the biggest possible of a certain item. There are
also hidden 'presents' in the game.

This game really feels like it's made of interacting
polygons and operating in a way the system most naturally
understands. If I ever made a 'current generation game'
..which I never will.. I'd probably evolve around something
like this only make it more complex somehow but in the right
way not the bs way. Any complex bullshit in your average
game is pretty much chopped off in this one. The music is
pretty nice but not what I thought it would be. There's
singing in it and stuff.. I like most of it a lot though.

I got Ico too and am not very impressed with it so far. I
almost always hate puzzles in games because 90 percent of
the time the puzzle you get stuck on is some stupid problem
of the game itself, such as having some stupid button
combination move you were told of at the beginning then
completely forgot about (god of war's stupid push box
move)... and pushing BOXES in games... jesus christ... can
someone think of something more original. There's lots of it
in Ico and lots in god of war. God of war is a totally
shitty game way to complex, in the wrong way, for its own
good and too many flaws that get in the way of the fun. I
got stuck in Ico on a rather early puzzle then just didn't
even care anymore to waste time solving it. I'll eventually
just find out how on the internet to see how stupid the
solution was.

I was so impressed by the whole concept, before even playing
the games, and upon hearing some mp3's, that I ordered
"Katamari Fortissimo Damacy" (= Katamari Damacy OST) from
cdjapan.co.jp.

It's truly a killer soundtrack. There's a couple of tracks
that even sound like Plaid or Prefuse73. But most of it is
simply undescribable!

Now, FINALLY, I also have both of the PS2 Katamari games to
play (haven't started yet!) - incidentally, Ico too! - so
I'll report back with a review; or maybe just random "ooh's
and aah's"...

the series has finally ended because the creator is angry
about namco wanting to milk it. he is very much against
sequels and didn't even want to make we <3 katamari (though
i'm glad he did). namco made the psp katamari without his
involvement. then the creator threatened to quit so they
discontinued the series. i'm personally glad since i can't
wait to see what the next original ideas of his end up
being.

i beat Katamary Damacy tonight actually. i don't even own a
PS2 and i bought this game. in terms of just plain cool,
this is the coolest most insane game i've ever seen. i went
into a hysterical laughing frenzy as i started ravaging
cities and picking up skyscrapers. had a borrowed PS2 so i
finished it up tonight. i was suprised really at how short
it was, though, especially as you start getting better at
controlling the roll.

after the game i still want to get better percentages on my
constilations and make the existing stars a bit bigger. bout
the 3rd try, i got my Moon to 670 something meters. i want
We Love Katamari pretty bad though, and i may just by Me &
My Katamari for one day when i might come upon a PSP (even
though thats the only game i'd want it for)

I've got my moon to about 1500 on Katamari Damacy. In the
second game, I've rolled up the King and the Queen (2500M
abouts). The second is the best for sure.

Also, I love the fact that if you fail, it simply says I
