Ogg is a format like Mp3 but it's supposedly better quality in a smaller filesize. I can't tell the difference between the two but as all my stuff was in MP3 already I see no reason to change.

Re-encoding music which has already been run through one lossy algorithm is a bad idea. You get the worst of both worlds.
Just leave them as ogg.

bryce_berny is right. You shouldn't convert between lossy formats such as ogg, aac, mp3, wma, etc. Converting between lossless formats is ok (wav, flac, ape, ofr, etc.).

well, i've done this to 2 albums and they didn't turn out that bad actually. did it for the same reason btw. it's a shame that ipod doesn't play ogg
