BPM matching live... help?

I'm trying to find a Red Sound Voyager... I cannot. The
states does not have this miraculous little device. Ebay
does not have one up. I am annoyed.

Does anyone know if there are any similar products on the
market?

I want something that I can sync my computer to a live DJ
with. The Voyager is perfect for this... 4 Audio ins, and on
MIDI clock signal out. Perfect, small, compact.

I am willing to spend more for this product if it's good and
built into an existing product with more features but
something that small would be ideal. Anyone know of
anything?

Is this the sort of thing?

I have a Red sound microsync (mini voyager). It's very
unreliable and I wouldn't trust it in a live situation, It
works fine when there is a steady 4/4 kick, but throw in a
breakbeat and it goes all over the place. I find i spend
90% of my time keeping it in sync than working with the
turntables or midi devices.

If you only require it to make short transitions its fine,
it doesnt work when the level of the source sound is lowered
or if the beat stops. When this happens, it goes into
freewheel mode where it remembers the bpm of the last
received beat, and normally fails.

I have managed a few good sets with it, but it required an
extra person to tweak the bpm buttons all night.

yes!
ears and head is the best combination, unless you're
frequently full stoned at you shows in case you should
always take a cd/dat with you.
but the best part is doin' a proper bad show with no
beatmatching at all, and then goin on saying like it is very
experimental and you tried to non-beatmatch all your set,
you'll always have people believing you...!

you don't need to beatmatch all that well for a changeover,
there's not much time for it to get out of time, and you can
usually suss ou the difference by ear..

I'm proud to say I've never used machinery to beatmatch.
Always been tempted though.

usual machines are taking away any art their is in dj-ing.

THEYRE TAKING OVER THE WORLD I TELL YA!

i'm gonna go & live on a commune. with a laptop of course.

The only problem i have ever had with beatmatching is when i
try to chuck things of different styles together. Otherwise
if i do an all jungle or downbeat set i can usually do it
fine by ear.

yeah, when it's all weird stuff that kinda doesn't flow
solid, like there's no regular beat just a regular pattern,
it gets difficult

I'm not using this to help beatmatch records... I just
haven't figured out a good way to beatmatch my loops, change
the tempo quickly or whatever. I'm trying to figure out
Ableton and that may be the solution... but we'll see.

If it doesn't do breakbeat well there's no reason to get
it... anyone else have experience with it or anything like
it? (software maybe?)

i think live is your best bet.

But make sure you spend the time to set all the warp markers
right.

I will try and explain it better to you if you like?
