Who got the collection?
Hands, please.
I want it, just $40 seems pretty good.
And they even added *more* stuff on top of the re-issued
stuff in the movies. Great.

heh.
What 'bout THX-11380980580850495.69?
I've never even seen it. Heard the re-issue is better b/c it
has a revamped sntrk. I'll buckle down out of boredom
someday and rent it just to say I saw it.

that movie is pretty boring, but well done in a pretentious
low budget sci fi kind of way. i'm sure people here will
tell you its brilliant though.

the final nail in the coffin for lucas was that he switched
in hayden christensen for the old dude who played vader.

i mean wtf, there is absolutely no way that's the way he'd
originally intended the films to be. if you hadn't seen the
prequels when you see RotJ you'd never know who the fucking
kid was.

lucas is an egomaniac who keeps picking at the little scab
until it becomes a festering infection.

i'm less interested to see episode III than i am dumber and
dumberer part deux.

in the ghost scene at the end of return of the jedi
(which was already pretty fucking lame to begin with).

Yeah I don't think I can be bothered with this, the changes
he made are not really necessary and I'm not a picture or
sound quality nerd so I'll stick with the vwideos.

By the way epohs, Ian Shaw as Anakin in the ghost scene, how
were you supposed to know who he was anyway? I don't think
you'd seen him before apart from when hes all fcuked up and
he hardly looked the same anyway. It's just obvious who he
was, who else could it be? Removing his eyebrows when his
helmet came off is probably a good move so he looks less
human.

The only thing I ever thought needed fixing was some of the
blue screen shit on Jabba's pirate boat thing at the start
of Return Of The Jedi ( I think) and some of Yoda's mouth
movement, particularly on his death scene.

i think you could recognize him from the removing of the
helmet scene... but, whatever. it's lame to throw in a
character who's not even been introduced yet.

Lucas has gone on record as saying:

Films are never finished only abandoned.

Fucking twat.

"The blaster fight between Han and Greedo has also been
revised slightly. In the 1997 version on the left, Greedo's
shot has hit the wall, while Han hasn't fired yet. In the
new 2004 edition, Han fires much sooner, so that the shots
are much closer together. Also, Han's whole upper body
shifts over slightly in reaction to Greedo's shot rather
than just his head."

At least that's a slight improvement. The scene makes a bit
more sense now.

to be more precise:

"AP: Why did you rework the original trilogy into the
special-edition versions in the late 1990s?

Lucas: To me, the special edition ones are the films I
wanted to make. Anybody that makes films knows the film is
never finished. It's abandoned or it's ripped out of your
hands, and it's thrown into the marketplace, never finished.
It's a very rare experience where you find a filmmaker who
says, "That's exactly what I wanted. I got everything I
needed. I made it just perfect. I'm going to put it out
there." And even most artists, most painters, even composers
would want to come back and redo their work now. They've got
a new perspective on it, they've got more resources, they
have better technology, and they can fix or finish the
things that were never done. ... I wanted to actually finish
the film the way it was meant to be when I was originally
doing it. At the beginning, people went, "Don't you like
it?" I said, "Well, the film only came out to be 25 or 30
percent of what I wanted it to be." They said, "What are you
talking about?" So finally, I stopped saying that, b! ut if
you read any interviews for about an eight- or nine-year
period there, it was all about how disappointed I was and
how unhappy I was and what a dismal experience it was. You
know, it's too bad you need to get kind of half a job done
and never get to finish it. So this was my chance to finish
it."

and..

"AP: Why not release both the originals and special
editions on DVD?

Lucas: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out
there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it.
... I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of
dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that,
because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like
this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw
half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want
it to be the way I want it to be. I'm the one who has to
take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have
everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if
they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw
rocks at me for something I love rather than something I
think is not very good, or at least something I think is not
finished."

both from here.

I love this bit: "..I'm not going to spend the, we're
talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to
refurbish that..".. yeah, George, you really care about
spending a lot of money, especially on something that you
will sell an absolute shitload of.

thanks for that link, I woundn't have bought the DVD had he
not made some of these changes, seems a lot better than the
ones relased at the cinema 10 or so years ago... still, I
would have liked the 'originals' included.

You all need to shut the fuck up. My empire tape is soooooo
run down from so many watchs it sick. There is all this
white noise type stuff on the bottem of the screen and the
sound track is all fuzzy now.
Its about time these came out on DVD!

Hope fully they fixed the Rancor. I remember when the
special edition came out the Rancor still looked really
really bad, like the blue screen was awful.

And it's so cool to hate ep1 and 2. When king nerd doesnt
like something the rest just regurgitate what he didnt like
about it. Thats the only reason why people think the first
two suck, they just are going with what all the other nerds
are saying.
SHEEP!

Episode 2 fucking rocks and Ep one is great too!

dude, i don't mean to be rude or anything, but by every
single criteria i use to judge the quality of a movie
episodes one and two sucked horribly.

the pacing, character development, depth of the plot,
uniqueness, everything was mediocre at best, and a miserable
embarassing failure if you're being honest with yourself.

the only reedeming factor was that he was pushing the
boundaries of digital film making, but they didn't even look
that good... I mean, the scale of the digital effects were
nice, but hardly mindblowing execution.

''the final nail in the coffin for lucas was that he

Oh my God.

I remember when the updated versions came out in '97, I had
them on tape... the computer animation was pretty jarring,
and not in a good way. But it wasn't THAT drastic, it was
mostly just window dressing.

But wow.

that now palpatine tells vader that he is lukes father.
