Windows XP users, check shit out. Makes your fonts all smooth and antialiased as if they were rendered in photoshop. Time New Roman, Verdana, etc, look slightly different, but it's worth it. |

it's called subpixel aliasing; it gets a better approximation of shapes by using the fact that pixels on laptops are actually triplets of rectangular cells. All modern graphics subsystems use it to render fonts. Here's the standard freely available one: Regular antialiasing is just pixel averaging along the borders, and doesn't take advantage of laptop screen composition.. |

Speaking of oversight, the whole point of the pixels being rectangular cells is that each is a different color, and together they can color the whole spectrum (usually either red-green-blue or b-g-r, the distinction being that you don't specify fill-left or fill-right, you send a color, so to approximate the same shape on two screens with different orderings you'd send different colors) |
