ok, well i was born in Harlow, Essex (South-East England). i lived there until i was 7 years old, by which time obviously i had learned to speak. unfortunately since my mom was from Widnes, Cheshire (North-West England) and my dad was from Birmingham (Central England) I had a mish-mash of accents - Widnesian-Brummie-Essex. For that reason, the teachers in my primary school used to say that i was "from the wrong side of the pennines".
then at age 7, the whole family moved up to Widnes. since i been born in the south and rasied there for 7 years, i had got a very noticeable Essex accent, which meant that my stay in Widnes for the next 5 years would prove to be "troubled". During my stay in Widnes, i had acquired a keen interest in technology, and anything to do with unexplained phenomena. i was an avid viewer of The X-Files and had gathered quite a collection of memorabilia and what-not. i had no interest in the typical things that boys of that age were usually interested in around Widnes (the main one being Football) and so i was persecuted. in 1993 my parents divorced, my father moved back to Birmingham. for 3 years i didn't speak to him because of the circumstances in which the separation happened.
at age 12, after getting back in touch with my dad i moved to his house in Birmingham. after living in Widnes for 5 years i inevitably picked up a broad northern accent. also i went to school in a predominantly asian school. and by predominantly i mean maybe 3 white kids to a class of 40 pupils. during my five year stay in Birmingham i had acquired a keen interest in alternative music, still did not like football or cars or anything else that is typically "laddish". my interest for computers grew, and i was deemed the school geek.
at age 17 i moved back to Widnes, with a broad Birmingham accent, issues from my turbulent school life, and a very big passion for music.
there is a brief history of oscillik.
i await the flames

ok, well to be honest here, the reasons for my moves are as follows:
the move at age 7: my nan - she was ill, we were the only family who could be bothered to look after her, so we moved. i was young, i don't fully understand the circumstances, and to be honest i don't care because it's all irrelevant now anyways.
the move at age 12: my mom had recently given birth to my half-brother, and her attitude had totally changed, and i didn't like living there and being shouted at and blamed for every single thing that went wrong. also after getting back in touch with my father, i realised that he was a changed man and i'd missed a lot of years with him, so i moved.
the move at age 17: firstly, i was getting blamed for things in the house too often [again :(], secondly i wanted to do Music Technology at college and the colleges in Birmingham wouldn't take me on because i had abysmal GCSE grades, thirdly i was pretty fucked up in the head from by my "girlfriend" (there is a perfectly good reason why she's in inverted commas, which i will not go into on this board)
am i still a gypsy?

i think i'm different because everywhere i've been, i've always had a different accent from the locals, i have always had different interests than the majority of the local populace, and i seem to have different views on things like morals and respect.

to be honest, in age of high techique gadgets and strange fetishes, having different accent and not minor hobby isnt making you different. you would be different if you would say like " i think that food fetish is a disease", yeah, then you wouldnt be normal.
you see, we have everything reversed nowadays.

maybe i should have titled this thread "reasons why i'm not accepted", that would have cleared things up a bit

yes i see - in a time where the taboo subjects are more and more mainstream, things are kind of reversed. :)

I used to pick on this kid in elementary school. His name was Jeremy. We used to call him "beaner" on the account of the shape of his large head. I found out years later that he had commited suicide. His girlfriend was pregnant and he had just lost both of his jobs. so he hung himself.
I felt kinda bad. Like we had been responsible because we were always picking on him. The kid that picked on him the most was this guy named Tim. He was relentless, calling him "beaner," "bean -head," "bean-dip," and other varaitions on the theme. Coincidently, Tim was killed 5 years or so before Jeremy's suicide.
Tim hung around with these "bad kids." This crew consisted mostly of Tim, his bad friends, and their older brothers. When Tim was in the 8th grade, he went drinking with his friends somewhere on the Skykomish River in WA. Tim and this other jerk, David, were horsing around by the river when Tim slipped in. David was un able to pull Tim out of the swift current, and Tim was washed down the river. His body was eventually found pinned under a rock about 1/4 mile down stream.
uhh.. not really sure how this relates to the topic. but i thought i'd tell a little story.

I was a little known porn actor and I moved to a down town area to shoot some films. I was out on a job one day shortly after I began working there and I was shot the fuck up by pimps jealous of my fucking skills. My body was taken and everything other than my brain and face was replaced with robotic parts (even my penis). I am now known as robocock and I am a world famous porn star.

I have nothing to say but; you are not alone.
I am a product of divorce, yet my parents were quite keen and allowed me to go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted.
Till this day I have only them to thank for thinking of me first and not themselves. I can only look forward to putting that kind of respect towards my future children.
Unfortunetely it looks like in your position you had quite a difference experience than I could quite imagine at that day and age. I'm glad you were able to recognize your condition and react accordingly. Life is hard sometimes within a divorce, let alone in your case where the actualy geographical location really matters that much to your upbringing, friends, community, etc
thanks for sharing, m8.

you sound exactly like a lot of people i know. and perfectly normal.
there's a lot of people in the world. sure, close up we're all unique, but from a distance vast swathes of people are essentially of the same kind. marketing people call them demographics, but that's a shitty term.
