i probably wouldn't be bothered with this film, if it wan't
directed by GUS VAN SANT!!!

check

check 2

is this actor any good? (i haven't seen any of the
films he was in i think...).

gus van sant isn't a director that i will trust to make a
good film. he directed drugstore cowboy, which i thought
was very good, but he also, more recently, directed finding
forrester and the remake of psycho. so i don't
automatically associate him with making consistantly great
movies.

as for this film, it doesn't sound like it's really about
kurt cobain - it sounds like an art film inspired by kurt
cobain.

i think van saint did those movies for the money...where you
have to do everything like they tell you too...i think.

i loved most of his movies i saw...i haven't read that
article properly yet (im not capable atm hehe), but i hope
there isn't some big studio behind it.

this is the final film in his death trilogy, the first two
being gerry and elephant.

i have no doubt he is a good actor.... and i often like how
he directs his actors. I just find they don't look that much
alike. the nose and mouth i mean...

then again does the actor HAVE to look like the person he
is portraying?
i would be inclined to say, not necessarily. maybe the same
aura color or something though! :)

he is not playing kurt cobain. the movie is fictional in the
way that elephant was, though you knew it was based on
columbine.

my mistake. haven't read anything on it yet. though it
seems obvious now you mention it.

yeah, doesn't look much like cobain..he's got hair all over
his face most of the time though..and yes, the film was
inspired by cobain although characters are fictional.

only saw it last night and thought it was brilliant. the
mood is real dark and depressing..right up my alley. the
music is awesome, which is only normal since thurston moore
was the adviser :)

the story is pretty much like i think it really was..sad and
depressing..

very sweet

"but the ending was very sweet "

ok, that's disturbing to say the least..

yes, venus in furs fit in so nicely..they couldn't have
found a better song for that :)

and yes, boyz to men part sucked although it had its strong
meaning..

i did think the end was sweet the whole climbing a lladder
bit i felt that was nice, i mean we all knew he died at the
end but i thought thatw as a ncie way of expressing it

what do you mean the Boyz 2 Men part sucked?!?!

:)

anyhow i've ranted about the quality of this film
elsewhere... i'm assuming this was part of the film festival
Goran?

how was the other stuff?

I thought this film was very odd. I didn't like the lack of
dialog kurt or whatever his name was mumbling too himself.
The only redeaming part of the whole movie was the ladder
scene

anything

some of it was excellent and some of it a bit less
excellent. the ones on top of excellent scale were
definitely; last days, hell, man push cart and broken
flowers.
i missed out a few because i had other stuff to do, and i
have still some to see.

and what's wrong with the quality of last days may i ask? :)
just a quick short review if you will :)

I think I have seen most of his stuff and I did expect an
atmospheric movie but Last Days was a little too minimal for
me.

it's been a time since i saw it, but i remember it to be
pretty boring. like 010101 said, if you fast forward you
won't miss anything....
except for one thing though, that empty depressive feeling.

and that's what makes it somehow a great movie. in this
sense it really brings across the feeling of depression kurt
probably had (or anyone being depressive). it's a boring and
empty movie, yes, but it's supposed to be that way.
so, yeah, i've got mixed feelings about this one

The most memorabal movie I have seen in ages was Atanarjuat,
the fast runner if you havn't seen it and you are looking
for something atmospheric and haunting in the same way Last
Days attempted to be I would highly recomend it.

i kinda liked the remake of psycho though. I mean it did
exactly what it set out to do and it did it pretty well. of
course it can't step to the original, but i don't think it
was trying to.

but yeah, GVS is pretty hit and miss as a director.

Last Days played at the Seattle Film Festival this year. I
didn't see it but i heard very mixed reviews. This is
Seattle after all, many people tend to feel more personally
connected to Kurt Cobain here.

this film played at the local indy cinema and got some
pretty horrid reviews.
sorrry. i had to let it go by, so i watched history of
violence instead.

music and interview with Earth

oh no, i mean i think this film is fucking awesome.

the photography was bloody impeccable, and at times verging
on orgasmic (an overstatement i know, but believe you me, my
jaw was most definitely downstairs during the scene where
Ricky Jay is driving up to the house with one of the
friends).

the soundtrack is gorgeous, the gentle surrealism of it all
is pretty amazing. to the extent really, that i don't even
know if it makes sense to describe this film as
minimalistic... there's some pretty nutty things going on
here, aesthetically...

Yeah, the Boyz II Men scene was the best, really. I thought
the ghost-thing was pretty corny but apart from that it's a
very nice film I like this film.
