I'm actually quite bored of this game already. Just doesn't excite me. However Counter Strike does!

i'm looking forward to the new counterstrike too.
playing CS on the silicon graphics workstations at school during summer was the best thing about the year 2000.

If you've got Counterstrike: Condition Zero then later this month you'll be able to get the Beta of Counterstrike : Source which uses the HL2 engine. Be a good tester for how my computer copes with HL2. Although it rips through Doom 3 so it should do fine:D

UPDATE:
I got so bored with Doom III I uninstalled it. My previous excitement has not lasted. This game is boring.
Shame. It could've been so good. Maybe I'll try it again some day,

Wow, hehe, you dislike it that much? I finally got to play it today, I don't think it's boring... but it's definitely disapointing. It's a great game, but not a Game of the Year candidate, it just looks like one. I didn't play it on high or ultra, and it still looked incredible.
It doesn't take long before it gets really repetitive, and it's too long... I haven't beaten it, but I hear it's a 20 hour game... that's way too much time for such a shallow gameplay experience. I can only strafe around so many fireballs before I get bored, y'know. And I can hardly tolerate the flashlight system. It's unrealistic and clunky, and only adds to the tension for so long before it's just a pain in the ass. But there's a mod for that, I'll definitely be using it when I get this game, and a nice PC (please, Santa).
I'm very excited at the prospect of deeper games being built upon this Doom 3 engine... going to be some amazing stuff. I'd love to play a Deus Ex game that utilizes this technology... the possibilities.
I do like the direction they took with it... people are criticizing it for not being more like the first 2 Dooms, dead cadaver sprites stacked 5 deep... which is stupid. They did craft an amazing atmosphere and environment, and did some great things with it. Actually, it sort of reminds me of a survival horror game, played from a first person perspective.
It's an awesome game despite the flaws... I just like to pick apart and overanalyze games because I take them too seriously. Gamespot's review hit the nail directly on the head. I think it'll be one of the best 10 games of the year, but if it hypes itself on year end lists over truly maniacal games like Ninja Gaiden, I'm going to be pretty annoyed.
And yeah, Silent Hill 4 is going to be scariest thing released this year... I've got a good feeling deep inside... I can hardly believe how phenomenal some of the Yamaoka music is in the trailers I've watched. Better than ever.

True about the length.
Action games really should only take a few days to beat. A few sittings to get the hang of it, then you should be able to beat the whole thing from start to finish in about 6-8 hours or so. More like old Nintendo games. Fuck saving!
