gameplay/funfactor?

a simple, it's really fun. not exactly what i expected

was pretty cool

Doom in Time

its a good article in regards to how Doom came out and about
and it also says that it will eventually be coming out in
theatres where the Rock will be set on the starring role.
sorta psyched - i hope they dont screw it up like all those
other vg movies.

yes, Shope. that is a good question. again.

we know the visuals are stunning, the sounds make you shit
your pants, but what about the gameplay and the story?

more important, if you ask me.

The story is your usual crap. It all seems a bit half life
my mate said. The gameplay is good so far though. Fucking
hard but then I did have to put it on the setting under
Nightmare didn't i!

giginger,

keep in mind, half life is sorta a rip off from original
doom.

so all you HL- fanboys need tostop with that nonsense ;)

That is true but it seems to have moved away from the Doom
style of gameplay is what I mean. Still a great big shit
load of fun anyway.

The crazy part is that there is an "ultimate" graphics
setting that machines aren't even ready for yet and won't be
able to support until the next generation of graphics cards
come out.

Well that's bollocks because I ran it on that last night.
Only thing is slowed down were some of the doors opening.

i'm hoping i can run this on medium @ 800x600.
:fingersxrossed:

my measly 9600pro is the only limiting factor.

i thought about doing a really minimal linux install, and
seeing if it ran better without the overhead of windows, but
i'm too lazy to do that.

Just CTRL+ALT+DELETE before you run and make sure there is
fuck all else running before you start. Literally everything
I reckon. If only your speaker icon is in your taskbar then
you're happy man.

Also as you have a Radeon:
This will work wonders for you. Crank up a
little more speed. I can't remember if it's the 9600 or not
that can be softmodded for to a better spec.

yeah, the early version of the 9600 pro could be easilly
clocked up to the 9600 XT... but, ATI found out about it an
fixed the bug. :(

bastardos!

frames per second info:
ctrl+alt+~ to bring up the console
then type com_showfps 1

Just clearing out stuff in the taskbar isn't that helpful.
There is still loads of un-needed stuff that starts up with
win-xp.

Here are hardware configs, very nice. As far as
I've been using my computer, I just use the 'gaming' setting
all the time, no matter what. The only thing i've found
that I can't do is open those 'ms info' files.

but when you hit ctrl-alt delete, you'll see at least a few
processes on svchost that are not needed, but you can't tell
which ones.

Yeah, runs pretty damn good I 'reckon'

I'm pretty impressed.

A lot of lil children are running around screaming like
their heads were just chopped off, proclaiming:

-It's too dark! OMG I CANT SEE SHIT
........Duh, that's how the game is supposed to be; you want
id to make it look like every other fuking FPS out there?

-Chops like a bitch
.......Duh, you knew it would be gfx heavy for the past 3
years
.......Don't complain, it runs GREAT at lower ends!!
.......Great job to id for making GOOD code, unlike most
companies.

-Just look Half-Life
......No it's not

-Multiplayer sucks
......id has been saying for over a year now it will be no
more than 4 person based. The engine isn't limited to this,
so modders can do whatever the hell they want. It will be
slow paced, creepy..you can hide in shadows and wait ;)

-Weapons suck
.....whatever, all opinion there.

Your fault you hyped it up to the point where...well,
whatever. you get the idea.

I'm in love with this game; had the audio cranked so fkuing
high last night...so creepy...im loving it. pitch black.
just hope my 6800GT OC will be here soon to kick the 9800pro
to the curb, though im running 1024/high/2x fsaa /8x ansi
just fine!

Great coding by id software, again, to scale all systems.

I know a lot of games (cough, EA, cough) where a top of the
line system will net you only 40-60fps. Blah! Weak
programming will ruin a game.

i'm fairly impressed with the looks so far. and my machine
is doing a better job running it than i expected it to.

but, it's crashing every time i enter a new level, and i
have to restart the game. fucking frustrating.

here's a bit o' information about the crashes...
i'm not sure what's up... the game seems to run fine most of
the time, then crashes.

if anyone's got any ideas that'd be swell.

Ahh shit, with those new drivers my desktop gamma is
insanely high, but when I go to the property page it quickly
switches back to normal without me having to change anything
(they are at the right settings anyway) but when I quit
doom3 it goes back to the brightness. Also, I have no sound
in the game. What the fuck?

went out to vancouver today, played doom 3 at the future
shop there, nice graphics, cool looking, scary as hell when
low on ammo or bare fists... but the comp was obviously
shite, it ran really slow and laggy.

and i had a look at the official stradegy guide within the
showcase booth, OH MY FUCK all my questions were answered,
which was acually only 1. what are all the enemies and what
do they look like, there are allot, and all adopted from the
old doom.

lowtax review

"Well the flashlight juggling physics fall into that
description as well; if you've got the flashlight then you
are defenseless but can see what's killing you, and if you
have a gun then you can defend yourself but you can't see
what's killing you. Sure you know that your health is being
gnawed away by a plastic spider of some sort, but you are
unable to locate the exact position of this spider due to
the fact that the lights are all out and every time it hits
you, your character spastically flings his head 180 degrees
backwards like a retarded child after licking a tazer."

Hahah. This is pretty much my opinion after playing the
game. It's like every other first person shooter, just with
better graphics.

Doom III is OK. There's some tweaks you can do to the
config to make it run better if your comp is having some
difficulties. The game itself is fun and was creepy when
playing it in the dark with headphones on, but still it's no
Silent Hill when it comes to creepyness. I d/l it off of a
bit torrent and I'm glad that I did. I would only play this
game for the single player and nothing else and that will
only last so long with replay value. I'm glad I still have
UT2K4 installed on my PC.

I think it's pretty great. They stick pretty close to the
feel of the original doom, and the visuals are totally
awesome, I could spend hours just walking around looking at
stuff.

And I don't really know what that goofball in the article is
talking about, I've yet to have any real problem knowing
where an attacker is.. and the flailing about when you're
getting the shit kicked out of you by two or three
hellbeasts... I'd be pissed if your character
didn't react.

The story could be a bit more non-linear, but then it
wouldn't be Doom.
