well, the problem is i want to buy something from english
web site - from here

the cost of the item is 6.81 pounds - inot too much.
i cant use paypal, or tnt, no bank account, but i can pay
for this stuff throug post ooffice - but only on a account
of some sort.
so i could send trhe money for the account of someone who
would be nice enough to buy the thing and then- send it to
me

DEAL ????

You should really get a bank account.

* saya = sword scabard folks

do you need one for a shinai or iaito or bokken? My mates
make their own for shinai and bokken out of heated plastic
piping. I appreciate that an Iaito scabbard is hard to get
locally without the actual sword. i'd help you out but i'm
still paying off a massive credit card bill from a year
ago....

good luck

i need plastic saya for my wooden bokken - that i need for
"kata" , element of suprise and stuff like that ( you know
what i mean ).
if i only knew how to make it by myself...maybe some guides
?

i used to use those when i did Tenjin Shinyo Ru

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2004-07-23 06:54 [#01283996]

real easy to make:

- get some suitably size plastic piping
- heat with a welder untill suitably soft
- place bokken inside and mould it around it

simple

murray: i must google that....

but what should i use to cover bokken ? heated plastic cold
be a little harm to wood. i mean, some paper ? besides,
shaping saya with hands wouldnt give nice effect, i mean,
saya could have some flaws in shape.

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2004-07-23 07:04 [#01284008]
Points: 5696 Status: Lurker

well to be honest i ain't done it myself but have seen the
reults of friends doing it. You only need to heat it enough
for it to curve slightly in the right direction, not enough
to make a mess of your bokken or get warped by being pressed
with the hands. its probably a good idea to wrap the wood
in some thin material first. experiment a little and don't
go too hot!

will do, steel brother.
cant wait to cross swords, would you accept a fight in
armour, and with shinai ? that would be prolly exciting !!

i'd say you'd win! our swordwork is geared towards
battlefield combat and not kendo-style match fighting. We
could definitely exchange techniques and ideas though!

I know you use kendo armour but have you heard of anyone
with good quality, cheap full samurai armour? The nearest i
can think of would be to find out who makes it for movies.
Nobody seems to sell this on the web (not much call for
actual samurai armour fighting styles these days)

in fact, I find it to be pretty handy.

I don't have a mobile either. fuck that.

sure i have links to sites where you can order complete hand
made armours, based on historical periods - like armour from
Tokugawa period ( with special marks of Tokugawa ),
Hideyoshi armour, Nobunaga and etc.
costs are not too big, i mean, not as for an complete armour
- usually it is between 500 - 3000$.
even 1000 is not much for hand made historical armour.

and yes, we could teach ourselfs nice things.

well, idea of someone keeping my money its not too nice for
me, i rather like to have them in my pocket, i feel more
safe in that way.

cool - link me up. i wouldn't be interested in too much
period detail... just the basic structural elements that
would allow you to perform realistic techniques... large
shoulder pads, thigh guards, full helmet etc.

The master teachers in japan do some real armour stuff now
and then and its pretty cool stuff. i mean, when you think
about it, the guys who designed the armour for protecting
against the samurai sword, the worlds most efficient
medieveal cutting tool, had to design some pretty tough
stuff AND it had to last on the battlefield! Fighting
changes bigtime when you're in armour... its interesing.

small amount of people knows it, but un-officialy armour was
designed to be strong, but at the same time, it should
provide places to stick sword in - not like medieval
european armours, but light spaces between several parts.
thats why japanese armour is constructed from tine steel
elements - they are stong and complex, but theres loads of
places to be invaded in it.
