i remember i used to not be able to stand him!
but in the last year or so, i've fallen in love with every
album i've heard... especially 'one foot in the grave'....
it's fastly becoming one of my favorite albums atm.
how do you feel about him?

the stuff i've heard is only the stuff that used to get
played on MTV2 when the channel first aired here in the UK
(and when MTV2 was decent to watch)

i like the stuff.

fave track: devils haircut

love that breakbeat

"Mutations" gets my vote. "Nobodies fault but my own",
"Runners dial zero". Ohhh.

most excited to hear... i need to pick it up asap.

It is a winner, brings out his melancholy side and the more
basic, acoustic approach shows off his damn fine songwriting
ability. Good lad.

one foot in the grave is really good. i used to skip school
and eat vicodins all day to his older, acoustic stuff. made
me feel like i really did have one foot in the grave..

one foot in the grave is my favourite beck album, too.
when i bought it in autumn 2001 i wondered how one could get
a record contract playing this kind of shit music. but then
suddenly it was cool.

i've really grown to like Sea Change.

and is it just me or was Midnight Vultures just really not
very interesting.

i guess Rich doesn't like his Beck remix but i'm all about
it.

haven't heard One Foot... yet, but what are the opinions on
Stereopathic Soulmanuer?

i've been into his music a long time. i really dig all his
albums a lot with the exception of midnight vultures, which
i can't stand.

stereopathetic soulmanure is the most under-rated and
unknown beck album, but it's probably my favorite. very
diverse styles, solid songs the whole way through. i highly
recommend it.

sea change is my fave by far. its so grown up form his other
stuff. ive not heard one foot in the grave but im sure it
will be my next purchase as im really into beck atm. i
always loved mutations and odelay and mellow gold etc. and
as for my fave track it has to be his cover of the korgis -
everybodys gotta leanr. such an amazing version of that song
(from the eternal sunshine of a spotless mind ost , great
film btw).
sea change is a deffinate great album though so relaxed and
chilled

seem like the popular choice. Odelay meant much to me during
my junior high years.

stereopathetic soul manure is much like his first two,
golden feelings and a wester harvest field by moonlight.
very diverse. i love the structure of these albums, because
they're not just song, song, song, song...you know? i've
taken a large influence from beck (as well as ween) with
songwriting and album composition.

he says his next album will focus on guitar! David Bowie
says he's the most talented musician on this centuray. i dig
forcefield. And some of the old bombs from "Golden

i knew his name for years without knowing what he was like,
so i've just got Midnite Vultures a few days/weeks ago!

i like it, especially Sexx Laws, Milk & Honey and Pressure
Zone - but i'm not sure if it gets old quickly or not, and
judging from what other people say, it's not his most
representative album (i'd try to get some other stuff, but
i'm getting so much music lately...)

"Mutations" onwards, the best track he's ever done IMO is
"Vagabond" from Air's amazing "10 000hz legend" album.

lyrics.

"i can smell the vd in the club tonight..." lol

sea change, though. esp. lonesome tears. wow.

His lyrics are always surreal; some of my favorite. He tends
to combine depression and humor; an odd wonderful
combination. His old material was simplistic and emotional;
nice. He actually sometimes combines humor and horror
instead; also a wonderful combination such as in mellow
gold. The piano melodies in mutations are nice; playful.

The song and video for "New Pollution" sure grabbed me. That
came at the right time at the right place for me, the first
time I watched it -- even the cheeky Kraftwerk reference had
me laughing. What a colorful piece of work. When I first
heard of Beck though, IIRC it was in a hotel room watching
the music vid for "Where It's At"... and I was like "WHO IS
THIS GUY???" and turned off the TV shortly afterwards. Life
is so strange sometimes.
