you still don't understand what a "band" comprises of

a band comprises of more than one person operating
instruments.

Liam is usually the only one operating instruments.

Gizz Butt used to do guitars for him, but he get rid of him
because he acted like a "twat"

What are you talking about? He produces the tracks but it's
the three of them together that make up the prodigy.

perhaps the ae-gescom difference is a good analogy: gescom
is not just ae just as the prodigy is not just liam. ;d

well, i guess the only exposure to prodigy's methodology is
the interviews in the film "modulations"...where there are
definitely more than one person giving their thoughts on
prodigy's live act...

and they definitely speak as one unit...but maybe that's
only as far as live performance goes. one guy, don't know
his name, says it's important that he not seem like "a guy
standing behind a keyboard" but part of the live prodigy
experience and there on stage as much as anyone else.

dequalsrxt

Prodigy live is not the same as Prodigy studio. same as Nine
Inch Nails live and Nine Inch Nails studio.

So you think in any band, someone who only does vocals and
doesn't play an instrument is not actually a member of the
band? Staggering.

no, they're the vocalist. unless they have a significant
influence on the musical direction, in which case that's a
different story.

And don't you think that the addition of any vocals has a
significant influence on the musical direction...?

Perhaps, oscillik, you could tell us what it actually says
in the book. That would help.

As far as I'm concerned the first two Prodigy albums are
Liam on his own with no help, then they went proper "band"
for the third, based on their live act.

yeah, that whole nine inch nails thing is weird too. now
other so-called "bands" spring to mind...ministry, for one.
even depeche mode, who are just barely a band...andy
fletcher is no musical genius, and dave gahan isn't a very
good singer.

seems that Martin Gore's first release was in 1989, same
year as Trent Reznor's

unless i'm reading his offical site's discog wrong

The Prodigy:

First EP = Liam Howlett
First Album = Liam Howlett with some "lyrics" suggested by
Maxim
Second Album = Liam Howlett
Third Album = Liam Howlett, Keith Flynt, Maxim all writing
lyrics.
New album = Liam with some extra stuff by Maxim and Keith.

THAT IS HOW IT IS.
They are a band.

doing the music

"First Album = Liam Howlett with some "lyrics" suggested
by
Maxim"

since this album had hardly any vocal content apart from
samples (and the Death Of The Prodigy Dancers, which was
live) how do you come up with that statement?

Very easily:

BY HAVING THE FUCKING FACTS!

Why does the amount of lyrics present an issue?
And, they're not all sample. You can fuck around with
voices. A couple of what you're probably thinking were
samples are they're own voices pitched and fx'ed up.

Death of hte prodigy dancers wasn't JUST a live track
either. The version on the album was admittedly but that's
beyond the point.

They are mainly dancers but they have contributed to all the
albums even if it is a minute amount compared to howlett.

The fact remains they're a band.

ok...from the recent "official" interview

What is Maxim and Keith's involvement in the new album?

"We've penned a few tracks together, and we're gonna be
finishing off these tracks in January. Kind of like before,
I've used their involvement in the same amount as before. I
didn't feel it was totally necessary to have Keith or
Maxim's vocals on every track. It's not really what The
Prodigy have ever been about...I always thought that Keith
and Maxim's or anyone's vocals that appeared on the record
aren't the most important thing; the music is the most
important thing and the vocals kind of fit around the music.
We've got a few ideas and are just trying to figure out
which ones to put on."

In an old interview you said you wanted to take the new
album like a step further from "The Fat of the Land" and
wanted the new album to be a further progression with more
vocals.

"There are a few vocals on the album, it's not an
instrumental album; it is a vocal album. But not necessarily
using Keith and Maxim all the time. I think that the Prodigy
have always been a band that can release instrumentals as a
single, you know. It's not like we have to have Keith or
Maxim to front every single. It's kind of like when we did
"Smack my Bitch up"; we wanted to rock it out there because
the actual tune just represented what we were about at that
time. It isn't important to me to always think that we have
to have the guys on every record. All that matters on the
album is whether it is a good track or not."

well...he also seems to have the say as far as how and when
and in what way any contributions from the others appear on
the album and in live shows. to me it sounds like another
nine inch nails situation...prodigy is liam, but he likes to
be considered a "band". some artists just like to share
musical responsibilities that way...
