oh, yeah it is a boolean value
but you can't make this tweak using the method of editing the com.apple.dock.plist file (although as said, you can make the dock show hidden applications that way *as far as i know*)

yeha, which is why I said altering the boolean value in the
pList xml file of the application isn't it
:D
Anyway I think that is the last thing I will write in this topic.

Plaural form though...It is a common misconception by most people that they have only one jugular vein which isn't true.

There, another reason why I don't like it. People don't even know that their necks have veins on each side of their neck.

Jugular veins are literally just the veins in your neck that carry the blood to and from your head, you have inner veins which carry blood from the brain the muscles of the face and neck, the external ones which are the best known carry blood from the the skull and deep parts of the face.

xp is only good if you suck at setting up hardware and networking, it's unstable, it's very open to viruses, and quite frankly win2k shits all over it, in tersm of both stability, and security.
oscilik, i sucks taht you've asked a simple question and been bombarded with shit by people who don't really know what they're on about, and although you've been wrong in the past (remember the "there's no way this game could be 96k" argument ;) you usually know what the fuck you're on about.

thanks man
heheh, yeah the 96kb 3d shooter argument was totally my fault
i admit it
I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOU CAN FIT A 3D FIRST PERSON SHOOTER GAME IN A FILE THAT IS 96KB
thank you for saying that i usually know my shit :) i appreciate that
i do get very defensive about stuff like this, i think it's mainly because in school there were two people in the whole school who actually knew anything about computers (me and my mate Ilyas). the teachers knew fuck all about them, but they always thought that they knew more than us just because of the fact that we were 14 and they were older than us.
The fuckers always asked us for help though.

i dont think explorer is the shell of windows.. i just ctrl-alt-del and killed explorer and i still had windows open, it just kills the task bar and desktop
what exactly are you trying to do anyway? you have virtual PC on OS X and it sucks so you want to try and find a hack/replacement of the XP windowing system to make it faster?
i expect its more likely that having to emulate an intel is whats causing it to be so slow so it might not make a great deal of difference.
also i dont know how virtual PC works but if microsoft might have implemented some of the kernel stuff like windowing natively in OSX so it could be counterproductive..

actually, explorer IS the shell, because if you edit system.ini you shall find a line that reads:
SHELL=EXPLORER.EXE
Windows Explorer is the shell for all Windows products after Windows 95.
Virtual PC emulates a 500MHz Pentium II chip, with however much RAM you desire to allocate to it from your actual system RAM. I have 1GB, and choose to allocate 256MB.
Obviously it's not gonna be as fast as the latest systems out there, but the point is I can take multiple Operating Systems out on the road with me anywhere I take my PowerBook.
As said before, I just wanna squeeze as much out of the system as possible. I never said it sucks, I just said I'd like to run stuff a bit faster, and I'd also like more customizability.
As for running programs under OS X without emulating a whole computer, the WINE project is being ported to Mac OS X under the name DARWINE and from what I can see, it works in the same way.

"and from what I can see, it works in the same way"
my wording isn't clear here :(
i meant that DARWINE seems to work in the same way that WINE does on other *NIX systems

with darwine you have to recompile it to ppc code first though i think :(
depends what you mean by shell i guess maybe microsoft calls it that, but explorer basically handles file browsing and the start menu things
the actualy window handling code (vaguely corresponding to X) which i thought was what you are talking about lives in USER32.dll

do you?
i thought the whole point of DARWINE was so that you didn't have to compile it, because it's natively coded for Mac OS X?
I know that explorer.exe doesn't actually act as a window manager (in the sense that KDE, or GNOME act like window managers in *NIX systems), but yes you're right - there is something else that actually handles the rendering of the windows and stuff. I'm not sure of exactly which file or program is responsible, but I'd have a fairly confident guess that USER32.dll handles it.
I've heard of people "resource hacking" the appropriate files, to give a different style to the windows and the widgets and stuff.
