Just setting here tonight reading the messageboards, about
the draft , war... and all.. how many of you all beleve
there is a higher power, and that this is all destiny.. that
mankind destroys its ownself.. I for one, have been an
atheist for 2 years, just don't really know anymore..

Its all politics, just makes me sick, without us there
nothing, I don't see why they think that can just make us do
whatever.. I have a feeling were headed for some band times
tho, b/c of mankinds never ending lack of stupidity

religion was made by man.

until the clouds part, and god says "Im real" why should I
take the word of some other human?

and even if, for arguements sake, god gave us religion... it
was a long time ago, and we all know how things get skewed.

i mean, youve played the game in elementry school, where you
wisper something to one person, and them to the next and so
on, and the end phrase is always different by the time its
over.

well, religion has been around for thosands of years. you're
telling me the message was intact for all that time? not
even considering other factors, like people exploiting
religion for self gain.

on one hand its probably true that all religions are archaic
and flawed

but on the other we cant lose sight of their goal - to help
people find peace and their inner selves

i dont believe in religion persay...but im intensely
spiritual..i read a LOT of religious text, Bhagadvita(can
never spell that right), the Bible, Torah, Qu'ran, Gnostic
gospels, etc etc....its at least interesting to see religion
evolve from a historical respect....I respect anyone's
belief in a faith, if it is an actual belief, and not only a
statement said every 7 days or so...like most of the
"religious" people Ive met.

and have nothing to do but pray to make themselves feel
secure...
or for people who are bored with life.
but i'm an asshole.... don't hate me.

religion is a business. it cant exist in modern society
without doing so. the fucking dali lama is selling books
these days. because of that fact alone, the way in which
the vast majority of these religions (establishments of)
conduct themselves does not generally follow the irony that
all of them profess peace. somehow these religions are
being taken up like swords to brainwash people into
believing god wants them to call a phone number on the
screen and give him money. or god thinks they should go
into a refugee camp and start aimlessly killing people. its
a parody of itself...because religion is a joke. haha.
liek that one liner "thou shalt not kill." thats comedy.

i prefer floating.

floating through some space where at normal times I feel I
am alone, a biological creature.

But when things happen that my mind cannot explain, I
obviously look toward a higher being.

I switch backa dn forth quite often, and therefore only
"truely beleive" in the object that at the time gets me
through the period I am experiencing.

Goodhands Team,

It wasn't quite a business thousands of years ago, so don't
go talking like that , now.

Although corrupt people have abused it (as you've stated).

Yikes !!! Long thread ahead!

I am a Christian.

I believe that the God of the bible is the real deal and the
whole package that comes with it is objectivly true.

I also think that evil is most effective when it flaunts
itself as good. It is all trojan horses and poisoned
apples. It should be no suprise if the same thing happens
in religion, so don't base your entire opinion on Benny Hinn
and the crusades.

I'm a Christian. I do not know what God is, though. But
he/it exists, and is very disapointed with us, collectively.
As for what happens when I die... check back in 60 years,
and I might have a theory.

'religion' doesn't have to '=' monotheism, or a
theism for that matter.

It can function as a nice allegory - a noble lie as
it were. However, I don't see the nobility in
necessarily considering oneself a "sinner".
Similarly, I struggle to see the nobility in the search for
truth at any price - for essentially nothing.
Truth as God!

actually, and funny enough, it WAS a business a thousand
years ago. as specific as re-enactments using product
placement to ADVERTISE the various sponsors of the products
used in such religious ceremonies. but i was speaking more
to right now. you know like how right now all of the major
western occupations AND other world conflicts are
representing two religions bumping heads. us/mideast -
pakistan/india - israel/(i would put a countries name here,
but the palestinian state has been dismantled). religion
should be internal. thats what all the religions actually
say anyway. christianity has more blood on its bloody hands
than any other organization throughout recorded history.
easily. yet-so prevelant. yet, so rich. yet, so powerful.
cultures that so actively embrace religion are doomed to
their own flawed and fractured ideoligies. like israel. or
anyother religious state. or any other state that imposes
entire culture facelifts like somekind of reality show.

I think humans too will go the way of the dinosaur. It'd be
interesting to think that in a mess of years, there'd be
some species that digs up our remains and puts them in
museums, setting us up in poses they presume we would have
made. The skin color would be all off, and the dominant
religion of the time would declare our fossils to be "tests
of faith", being that our existence predates their
doctrines.

If you look at the way humans have evolved, it's quite
obvious we're going to become aquatic at some point - As the
water levels rise no doubt.

Webbed hands & feet, streamlined body hair & tear ducts,
gills in early foetal development.... primates have none of
these characteristics.

The fact of the matter is, we know nothing of our
environment - We don't know what 90% of the universe is made
up of - We don't actually know what matter is (M-Theory has
replaced string theory) - We don't know what awareness
is.... All you really know is that you're here now, and
either you believe in a higher intelligence behind
everything, and an ultimate unity in all things - Or you see
the universe as billions of atoms floating in a cold dark
space.

The difference in your perspective is undoubtably nothing
more than a insight into your state of mind and emotional
well being..

Don't kid yourself it's any more than that - But neglecting
spirituality will leave a gapeing hole in your life, as the
parts of the brain which actually separate us from animals
are very much designed for these things.. And belief in God
is hardwired into you whether you can rationalize it or not.

"If you look at the way humans have evolved"

actually, you can't do that, 'cause we're not sure we HAVE
evolved... there has been no significant evolvement in
recorded history, and findings from past ages could be
other, extinct races... nothing is for certain, nothing is
true.

Humans have the capacity to love, be at peace, not kill, be
communtiy orientated, be respectfull of others and all that
stuff religion trys to instill through mumbo jumbo WITHOUT
the mumbo jumbo.

It just take a little fucking effort!

Shiting on about an obvious man-made concept like God is
getting us nowhere fast!

I do think rituals, religious meettings, choirs and all that
are good but lets leave out the god thing and celebrate
humaness.

I fucking am my own god!

to take a tangent from what jswift said about awareness

it is said that true wisdom is total awareness

awareness is such a profound thing. this truly does become
apparent through meditation ..

an awareness of the nature of consciousness still seems like
an almost unfathomable thing to me, but i feel im beginning
to glean an understanding of what does and doesnt help it to
unfold

You can't go around saying what's right and wrong because
the truth is... Nobody knows. I am a Christian and I'm not
ashamed of it. I think that if nobody knows what happens
after you die then nobody has the right to say that others
beliefs are wrong. This means that everyone is right until
proven wrong. A person with Christian beliefs is the same as
a person with Buddhist. The ideas aren't the same but
whether they are right are exactly the same. For example;
You could make up a religion now and stand by it. This new
religion that you have made will be just as correct about
life after death as the next religion (AS NOBODY KNOWS!).
You see what I'm getting at here? Be careful how you use the
word, 'religion', as it means 'way of life'.

Yeah, my own theory on the whole thing is that awareness is
a fundamental of the universe - Otherwise you whole
existance and "self" boils down to a particular
"arrangement" of matter in a small region of your central
cortex.

I think before birth you're just a unified part of this
(living) universe - And the individuality you are aware of
now is just a projection created by the brain for the
survival of the body..

So you see people with this natural urge to get back to that
"unified" state - Through a lot of thing: drugs, computers,
phones, internet, meditation, etc...

You see the telecommunications lines like neural connectors,
and us as insignificant nodes in a greater collective.

And most people aren't even aware of this.

It's obvious the brain is capable of this, especially if you
look at multiple personality disorder - The brain can create
as many completely separate entities and personalities as it
wants.

When you die, a small piece of the universe doesn't die with
you - To me, the only thing that'll die is the illusion that
you're ever separate from the greater whole in the first
place.
