Just thought I'd make a topic since I got a few books for
the library... and begin to start reading properly for the
first time in years, some books for proper reading, some to
dip into.

All non-fiction:
Television and Censorship
Dictionary of Symbols, Myths and Legends
It Doesn't Have to Be Like This (David Icke)
Oxford Dictionary of Humorous Quotations (heh)
Black Ivory: A History Of British Slavery

How about anyone else?

Improvising Jazz by Jerry Coker - great little book - short
but every page has a drop the bomb on your little world idea
that makes you think man, that's so simple and true, how
come I didn't think of it? If you already know some scales
and modes and chords he tells you what to do with them and
why. Shove this book up your ass, people.

BTW, David Icke is wrong about the lizards. I mean, we are
here and we do control the world, but we're kinda nice and
misunderstood.

All conspiracy theorists are right, but only on what they
agree on between them. Picture a Venn diagram and where all
the kook theories intersect, therein lies the truth.

Bukowski's word is very good - I read them when I was about
17, and thoroughly enjoyed. Alas, they were borrowed copies,
so they aren't in my personal library, a fact which I will
possibly rectify.

I am currently reading "The Occult" by Colin Wilson.

If you like reading books which aren't widely distributed, I
recommend abebooks.com -- the 2nd hand bookshop of the
Internet.

Just finished Kingsley Amis' "Lucky Jim".

Currently re-reading Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil" and
Tolkien's "The Hobbit".

New material: Power Tools for Reason 2.5, working through
the exercises. Countless graphics, law and networking books,
too many to list.

Just about to start the first of "The Alan Clarke Diaries".
The recent televisation with John Hurt was very good and a
lot of people have recommended the books.

big fish (yes it is a book originally) - its pretty
underwhelming actually, alot of the stories arent nearly as
magical or even close to being the same as those in the
movie. worst part is, theres no continuity between the
stories in the book (ie carl the giant just lives in
whatever edward's hometown was, and doesnt travel with him)
also there's no conflict between the son and edward, edward
is just dying. imho the movie is 10x better than the book

Last two books I read were Exquisite Corpse by Poppy
Z. Brite and The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. The
first book is about this Jeffrey Dahmer-type serial killer
named Andrew Compton who escapes prison be willing himself
to such a state that he appears dead. The prison doctor even
signs his death certificate. He leaves England and comes to
America, New Orleans, and meets a kindred spirit. It's
pretty good. All the main characters are gay and have aids,
and aids seems to be the least of their problems.

The Ray Bradbury book is short story collection, most of
which were written in the fifties. The majority of them
being science fiction dealing with various space travel /
mars scenarios.

I got Queen Of The Damned by Anne Rice and Brave
New World
by Aldous Huxley on deck.
