So start a monthly or something at a club that highlights
IDM in your area. Do any of your friends DJ or produce
"electronica"?

Here, here. I'd imagine it's worse in Canterbury than in
Leeds though... we have www.v3ctor.com, although the venues
are shit and tiny. Went to the ovuca/bogdan gig and RDJ was
sitting behind me supping a pint! Considered asking if he
wanted to pop outside for a smoke, but don't think I
could've taken the pain of a rejection. And he might have
heavies to pound me into my respectful place (DMX Krew?).

Anyway, made my fucking week that did. True story.

I have ample friendage, but sub par clubbage. We have to
make do with electroclash and breaks, which beats the Ritzy
at least.

members where only amazing electronic is played.

Love the tower block on the website taffmonster, proper
british modernism. High rise council flat chic.

What type of production does your mate in Leeds do? Myself
and 2 others in Leeds also produce. We're always making
vague statements about starting up a night, but it never
happens.

Leeds: home of LFO. And, erm, Chumbawumba. Sorry.

progressive trance kids (or metal and hip hop kids for that
matter).

at least thats what ive seen around here..

souds like your way has already been paved.

Where do you live Taff?

London's pretty good for it. I say "pretty" and what I
actually mean is fucking superb.

But even Norwich, which is a city of fuckwits, has the
occasional monster night.

Apparently there's a place called Tiffield, tiny little
village of about 150 or so inhabitants, and all of the
younguns there are into their IDM, breakcore, glitch and
noise stuff.

Shitmat was telling me he went to Belgium (before his recent
tour, this is) and it was shit despite the fact that the
scene is supposed to be alright over there. Then he played a
gig in Worthing (where old people go to die) and it was
loads better because there were a group of 10 or so pikeys
just having it, totally giving in to the music and jumping
about punching the air without their T-shirts on.

It's a huge global scene but locally it sucks.

I spoke to another guy who said the scene in Japan sucks
arse, even though they have quality musicians like Ove Naxx,
Com.A and Joseph Nothing over there.

I suppose it all depends...

Ah! Canterbury. Know nothing about the place, other than the
IDM scene is appauling (or so I've heard)!!! : )

Psytrance, Goa Trance and almost any other kind of trance is
not electronica friendly. It's all beardies with dogs on
string hand dancing on LSD.

Some DnB heads quite like it, and I've met quite a few indie
kids who are not only into the accoustic IDM and ambient
glitch stuff but also mashcore and stuff.

Yeah, totally man.

Sometimes I drag my mates to gigs. Usually they stand by the
side, amused and scared, while everyone else (me included)
go bonkers and sideways to the music.

The Elektrowerkz Mu/Rephlex/AI xmas thing was enjoyed by all
though, cos my mate who was into DnB loved Remarc, my idie
mate thought Yellowtone was the dog's bollox and my mate who
likes anything as long as it's not too serious thought
Shitmat was wicked.

You just gotta TELL them they're coming with you and don't
accept no as an answer. But make sure to go to a night
that's sure to be stonking otherwise they'll hate you
forever.

Dedbeat/ATP are where it's at UK 'tronica wise. Or so I
hear... never managed to get my shit together in time to get
tickets. What an arse.

I'd do a gig at a local pub or whatever, but emo/punk scene
the Leeds live gig scene. Don't think it'd go down all that
well. "Play some Jimmy Eat World!"

Taff: Was that the year with Vibert, Prodigy, The Streets
etc? 2002 I think? I was there too. Eventually made it to
the front. Another mate who went for all the hard rock stuff
wandered in by mistake and got totally stuck in. Fucking ace
just bouncing around everywhere.

Where's your uni? There are bound to be bars and stuff
who'll let you play. You just have to ask. It doesn't have
to be a big thing either. They'll pay you a small amount for
you to have fun for a few hours. Doesn't have to be a
"Charge to get in" "poster campaign" thing.

I'll try to get a crew together and we can all visit you and
go mad for a night or summat.

What set up would you use to do a live laptop set though?
Seems to me that, without some advanced software, you'd
basically just be playing presequenced files. Would be sweet
regardless though.

i live in Widnes, Cheshire (north west of England)

there are about 3 people that i know who listen to
braindance/IDM/whatever the fuck you wanna call it.

most of the people here are scallies, so my idea for gigging
round here would be fucked up by me getting the shit beaten
out of me and my equipment stolen on me :(

i'm planning on moving to Burton-on-Trent ASAP (where my
girlfriend lives) because it seems like people are more open
minded about music and culture down there.

i just gotta get sorted with a job and accommodation and
everything

I'm trying to organise some live shows in Newcastle with the
musicians I know at the moment. Just get out there and have
a fucking laugh. I'm not great at DJing but I mix
Mu/Rephlex/Misc Gabber and all kinds of madness. My friends
make some mental tracks too so I hope to have them play
live. I'll post here when something happens.

Oscillik.. There are arseholes everywhere you go. If you're
worried about people jumping on the stage just get your
mates behind you. I think you will find that most townies
will be gob smacked at what you mix however and just get
into it, I'm still asked about by some charves who heard me
mixing Mokum gabber into Squarepusher and shit at this
party. All night my vinyl case was my seat tho. :>

Spikee Dragon

heya mate, haven't seen you on here for a while :)

yeah i know there's arseholes around everywhere, but it just
seems more-so here :( this place is SO single minded it's
fucking pathetic - according to the scallies, if you don't
like football, cars, and blatantly proclaiming that the next
woman who walks past you is "fuckable", then there's
something wrong with you....i hate that kind of mentality. i
don't mix by the way, if i was gigging it'd be my own music
on my iBook and outboard equipment ;)

kid

yeah, it seems to be like that when I visit my
girlfriend.....i'm due there around the 26th of May.....it's
that good it feels like home there!
