It is not that simple it seems. What you wrote in your above post is an expression of globalisation. Globalisation inevitably leads to the gradial mutation and decay of other economical and political systems such as religions. Only the fact that we know about dreadlocks for example and have the choice to embrace such a stylistic aproach means that systems like the rastafari are decaying. |

Hehe, i went out so i didn't see that reply... Personally the idea of adopting a socialist revolutionary for a t-shirt or poster campaign is blackly funny in its way. I'm not a part of the guevara-shirt gang, but i don't find it particularly offensive. In retrospect "just accept it" is a bit pseudo-nike, but i stand by my opinion. Hegemony is always going to happen, particularly in a capitalist state. I don't think that adopting dreadlocks or bearing the image of a revolutionary on your sweatshop-made shirt is the most important, or relevant example. It's when the west actually begins to "phase out" custom and culture by aggressive neo-liberal trading that i get worried. |
