How'd this guy get signed to Warp!?

Aside from a few shining moments, I think Chris Clark is a
very average artist. I've heard many tracks on xltronic
that are far superior to anything Chris Clark has done, at
least what I have heard.

Thats my two pennies.

I will however give props to Chris Clark for the first track
on Bury the Bones of You, and I think the album cover for
that album is amazing as well.

That is Rephlex's motto, isn't it?

I will say this about Chris Clark...

He seems to cut the bullshit and gets on with what he wants
to say through his music, which I admire. I just don't
think its that great.

..bury the bones of you?

you probably mean Empty the bones of you..

anyway, I've heard a lot on xltronic that kind of sounds
like what Clark does, but never better.

that said, I think Clark is okay, not much more.

"empty the bones of you", not "bury"

to be.

you complaining about somethign you dont like?

he has the tendency to do the "ironic Aphex

well, it doesn't come over very friendly when you name a
topic like this, on the other hand I see no problem in
making such a topic.

if someone likes Clark, he can do two things - say he
disagrees, or ignore the topic. it's pretty simple.

I think he's great. Noting particularly earth shattering or
innovative, but I like the structure and sounds in his
tracks, especially when the beats get crunchy, and he
reminds me of the Calgary Flames.

Agreed. I think he is pretty average too (lots of detail in
production though). Take for instance someone just like
Orange Dust, he is far far superior definitely. There is a
lot of detail in Chris Clark's music but unless you've got
the patience its not the kinda of music which instantly hits
you. I would say he has 1 tune the rest are quite
forgetable.

To be honest, and this is just my opinion, I reckon he's a
lot better than most people who make music here. Some people
come close occasionally, but by and large I think Chris
Clark is a lot better than many producers, especially almost
everything Warp have released in the last year or so.

But Warp suck anyway.

Chris Clark is really good. CP was an OK album especially
as a first ever release. Ceramics was pretty good (The
Gavel especially) and Empty the Bones has tons of mood.
Besides saying OD is far far superior is a stupid comment to
make, they make completely different styles of music. I
think Chris' music currently occupies a wierd sort of middle
ground between Aphex and Autechre for Warp. I'm looking
forward to his next release.

I think its a matter of taste. If you call Chris Clark
average...who is excellent? What is excellent about them
that in comparison makes Chris Clark average?

I personally dig the more uptempo cuts, but some of the
ambient stuff on Empty Bones of You is excellent, very
nicely engineered sounds.

Chris Clark makes music I enjoy. I really liked his
atari-ish melodies on Clarence Park. (The extra track on the
warp site that you can download is sorta nannou-ish, which I
dont dig as much. Not because I dont like nannou, because I
love the track. But because it was too similar for me)

Empty the Bones of you and Ceramics is the Bomb are very
nice records. He certainly has his own "sound" on these
albums and you can hear him come into his own style and
explore it more on these albums.

I know alot of people who dislike him and I can understand
why. But EtBoY was essential listening for me as I walked
around the sterile halls of my university this year thinking
"What the fuck am I doing here?"

sorry for creating this whole mess.

I listened to Chris Clark's Clarence Park last night for the
first time in a little while, and I just felt the need to
share.

Yes, Clark uses a lot of nice sounding pads and things of
that nature, I just don't find much of it refreshing. It
kinda sounds like a rehashed autechre, which is not good.

But hell, he is on Warp and Im not so screw me, he must be
doing something right!

For the record, I think Chris Clark is an average artist,
and Im sorry if that makes anyone mad.

i dunno why people get so defensive when someone "complains"

my friend described his music as "pedestrian", which I
believe is quite accurate, and also the most problematic
aspect of his Warpdom. whether it's good or not isn't really
the issue. the issue stands in Warp watering down their
musical tastes for the sake of popularity. that's my two
cents at least.
ps. drummond, are you just trying to make trouble? :P

It's easy to get into and pleasant as heck, makes me feel
