I have fallen in love with this package so much I have bought myself the official package. That shit I posted yesterday was my first track with it. It is just so powerful and I prefer it in almost every way to Reaktor.

? The Max part of of MaxMSP is basically just being able to program MIDI sequences which can be output to hardware or whatever you like.
The MSP part is audio manipulation.
As a package it is rediculously powerful.

It is nice, isn't it? Probably the only piece of software that justifies a hefty price tag too, once you get to grips with the beast it does some mind-bending things.
Still building my uber-speldorific patch for live stuff with it too, ableton can go eat pebbles once I'm finished!

You mean that track that face ripping off track? Interesting. Did you build a max/msp structure (or ehatever you call them) from scratch to do that?
Is there a Max/MSP user library where people upload their creations like at NI?

I built it from scratch. I haven't looked to see if there is anywhere people upload their stuff. I have just read through the tutorials and then built my own machine(s).

If you mean in general:
The package is basically a development system for audio applications. It's not really a traditional music package as such. You can use samples as part of the machines your build and they can be anything you want.
Specifically my track (I don't think you meant this one):
Only one sample was used which was a single snare hit. Everything else is generated.

For those who can't afford MAX/MSP, there is a Free isotope of the same called Pure Data ...
http://pure-data.iem.at/about/ ...
PD is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio and graphical processing. It was planned as a free, better and more stable Max/fts, which has also been developed by Miller Smith Puckette at IRCAM.
PD was written for multiplattform from the beginning and therefore is more portable; PD is open source software, it is free for any use and can be downloaded with the Internet. PD runs at least on Win32, IRIX, LINUX and Mac-OSX plattforms.

I've been checking it out - you should get a PD window with a file menu etc. where you can select new, open etc.
The gui seems to be written in Tk, a tookilt originally used with the TCL scripting language.

No, you don't get it. It's not a case of running shit through it. You build machines to do what you want them to do, or you can purely use it as a MIDI sequencing tool. You can basically do anything you want with it.

I don't want to be impressed with it, I want to use it to create more random tracks than the use of a regular sequencer allows to. Combine it with something like Cubase SL/SX and some nice hardware "Made in Sweden" and there you go :)
I've sent out my bots to track down the extended demo. $495 is a bit steep for something that I might not use that much. It's hard to tell in advance.

I haven't really got too into the MSP side of things yet when it comes to sample manipulation. Times a bit tight at the moment so I am not sure when I will get the chance to go into that stuff. There are probably other people on the board in a lot better position to sort you out with that sort of thing.

Yes you can do everything. No you can't render MP3's straight out it only allows you to do WAV or AIFF as it records in real time.
