I think Ae will always exert a gravitational pull on me - so much of their output is timeless; never stuck in a rut, which is kinda rare; far too many artists (with a small a) find a phormula & constantly limit themselve to weird genre dogmas...

The big boys, Ae, AFX, SQPR, Richard Devine et al are the ones who really drive this music forward; nu mappings...

The less Autechre is talked about the better imo............. all thats left to say is.......... BRING BACK THE OLD AUTECHRE..... more recent Autechre (Draft etc) is too heavily based on technology & will inevitability die on it's ass as technology advancess & people can make this kind of "music" with the press of a button & a couple of turns of a knob......... it's easily possible now, with the right software..... go figure.

the technology is there... it's not like ae is using anything that is different from most artists... it's there meticulous compositional skills that set them apart...

"people can make this kind of "music" with the press of a button & a couple of turns of a knob"

Okay, make me your own version of Draft 7.30. I'll expect it'll take you about 30 seconds to press a button and turn a knob a couple of times, so I expect to hear it then. Post the link to it in this thread. Cheers

yes i am sure because (and now i am repeating myself... which seems very stupid, given that the original sentiments can be read above): autechre does NOT have access to some kind of special technology which enables them to make music like no one else... however, their music is relatively unique, when one compares it with the countless beat-oriented electronic artists out there (who have access to the same gadgets)

Unfortunately your absymal overuse of the "&" symbol and generally poor sentence construction allows the phrase to be interpreted in about 600 different ways, so I will still stand by what I said although perhaps you meant something entirely different.

You adopt a silly attitude: you clearly feel uncomfortable with how much they have progressed and are reacting by wishing for a return to the cosiness of the old, familiar, and somewhat exhausted style.

that's about the gist of it, Sam.
some people, when their favourite artists make new music that is not to their liking, or even evolving faster than those listeners are themselves (musically speaking), they do not look at themselves and say "I do not like this music, this is my problem (or not at all)", but actually try to blame the artists in some way.

  extraordinary behaviour..

hmmm.... considering all your reply consisted of You "repeating yourself" it took a long time coming, wouldn't you say? ;)............

I know what your saying, but you are not answering my question, you are meerly saying that Autechre have the same technology as other people who do not choose to create meaningless coded music.

autechre have always laboured over the quality and output of their sounds, to think that they've reverted to pressing buttons and letting the computer make it's own noise is simply childish, these are the guys that CARE about how the music sounds, I beleive there is more soul in their newer thickly layered stuff than there is in their older stuff, they have progressed, they haven't gotten worse, they've just changed their style, even their new albums sound like pop compared to some of the other stuff you can find out there, for fuck sake man, expand your horizons

This is exactly the point I am trying to make.......... They havn't progressed, more like regressed...........
for example... it's like a mathematician, if he was to rely on a calculator for every aspect of maths he'd be 1) no longer a mathematician 2) restricted to operate within the confines of the calculator.............. I'm not sure that I can simplify it any more than that.
