Am I the only one to think that Ultravisitor is not that good ?

I have been really desappointed after the listen of
Ultravisitor ; near everybody on this board seems to think
it's awesome, but I don't understand why.
I have listened to it many times and I still think that some
tracks are annoying (mainly those on which he plays bass
guitar). I also have difficulties to listen to Steinbold or
Arched path : i find them awful and almost unlistenable,
whereas I am used to listening to Venetian Snares or some
noise music like Merzbow or Masonna for example. OK some
parts of those tracks are nice though... but to me some
parts could have been avoided.
Finally i believe that Tom Jenkinson has lot imagination and
that this album isn't good at all. Maybe am i wrong. (Please
don't answer things like "Yes you are wrong!" ^_^ but try
explaining me how I should listen to it if it is really
good...)
To my mind Hard Normal Daddy or Big Loada are far better.

I agree, the more I listen, the less I like it. I'm glad I
didn't buy it.
You know those jokes where the people who were there find it
funny, but when you try and tell someone else, they don't
get it.....
well ultravisitor seems like that, great if its played live
on stage infront of you, as part of a spectacular show, but
from a stereo its just boring.

Its like when cookery goes wrong, you add all the
ingredients which should make a lovely meal, but you just
end up getting food poisoning.

the thing about ultravisitor is that squarepusher has pushed
(excuse the really bad pun) himself past just being an
electronic musician, i personally think of ultravisitor as
an avant garde jazz album. try listening to it for its
musical quiality (i mean cmon, who do you know that can play
fingerstyle bass faster or more accurately than that?) also
just the fact that its not nearly consistant in sound has
annoyed many people as well, so try listening to it not
expecting the same style to be repeated but having each
track go somewhere completely different.

"ultravisitor" it makes me think of "music is rotted one
note"...-with an attitude.

Technically its very good, I agree.
The term avant garde, is in my opinion another way of saying
pretentious crap. Avant garde music often gives people ideas
of how to make proper music, but generally avant garde stuff
is like a mad professor discovering something, then real
music is like an engineer making it into something useful,
which people can use.
Sorry for sounding like a nob, it just seems to come
naturally as of late.

i dont really enjoy the term either, but i just use it in
the sense that its a very unconventional album, which i
generally understand the acutal meaning of avant garde to
be.

Even Tetra Sync bores me ... i think it ins't melodic...
it's difficult for me as it hasnt ever been before i
think...
I think it's more a technical album than a melodic one ...
but both are possible at the same time (see Autechre,
Fennesz, Hrvatski...). Here i don't see the point of most of
tracks.

hmm...

i don't know, but it seems like it's the same effect with
Ultravisitor as it was with Geogaddi:

everyone loves it at first, they've been so impatient about
it that it sounds absolutely awesome to them when they can
at last listen to it - then after some time, more and more
people think it's not so good after all... (i'm not sure
whether it is because people change their mind, or because
all the people who thought it wasn't that good at the time
everyone was praising it couldn't express themselves because
they were "drowned" in the sea of praise...)

...i don't know, maybe, maybe not.

we all know the first impression when listening to an album
is often misleading. (i don't like listening to albums for
the first time) ' _ '

i do not listen to Ultravisitor everyday, but i really like
it for now though, i hope i won't grow bored of it! : )
have to be in the mood for it (though it's not as much
"mood-dependant" as other music).

anyway you're not the only one, i like Ultravisitor myself
but i've seen a couple of people on the board who don't.

Ok thanks ;) i'm not feeling alone now.
Well I think i will try again with this album... but maybe
in a couple of weeks.

yeah, don't force yourself anyway - i must have listened to
it 4 times in its entirety or something like that yet...
sometimes i feel it has dispensable filler stuff but the
last time i listened to it, i loved it (and after
"analysing" all the tracks (not technically mind you, i know
fuck all about this ^^), i found out that there is only
around two that i would have removed) : )

(that message may not be very clear, i feel i'm losing my
english... well, i'm losing my french as well... i'm losing
all my languages o_O)

i had the pleasure of recieving it the day before i went on
vacation, so just to get a feel for each track, i listening
to it on a constant loops on the plane ride, so ive probably
listened to it in its entirety about.... 10 or so times now,
and i feel that its growing better each time, and i can
really listen to each part and not just sit there trying to
figure out where the track is going for the first time.

I just got it myself and so far i like it, and seem to like
it more and more every time i listen to it. But then again
the music is in the ear of the listener...

I tried to like it, I really did. But deep down.. I'll
always love the jazzier side of Squarepusher (first 3
albums)

it's too long, and some of the tracks are too long and drawn
out, but overall, it's incredible. I rank it up there with
hard normal daddy and go plastic. it's probably both his
most eclectic and his most melodic album.

I agree, and I think I was the first one on this board who
posted a negative opinion of this Album here. It just isnt
that good, its pretty boring, despite all the detail that
went into the drum programming

i can't predict what i'll make of ultravisitor in months +
years to come. but right now im really engaging with a lot
of the material on it. more so with every listen. tom
jenkinson seems to have really nailed the fusion of his jazz
musicianship + his skilled programming. more convincingly
and fluidly so than on any other release.

so, im sorry, but i disagree with you on this one.

It's good but sometimes I really hate those fillers...and An
Arched Pathway isn't good. It has some excellent tunes so on
a whole it's a good record.
Steinbolt is a bit brutal and fucked up a t times but it's
excellent. The hardcore drum'n'bass part could have been a
bit longer though. 6:09 is the climax of the whole record
imo. I listened to it on the car for a week non-stop.

I still think its crap. The way its been recorded is the
most irritating thing about it.
