If it is indeed GTA 4, then I'm sure it's going to be
great... if it's just another rehash using the same engine
then I would rather beat off in front of a crowd while tight
rope walking over a tank full of jellyfish than play this
game.

it wouldn't be that bad.. it's just like they add a
whole new map and new vehicles to the game..
i don't think they should call them whole new games though..
maybe addons or something..

It would be nice for more interactivity with both plot and
environment.. but even then it's so much fun to play I'm not
picky.

depends on which context.
it was defineatly not funny now - and can never be funny
when told alone. You suggesting that it may be funny (by
asking), is a little bit funny though.

Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Monday March 1, 7:55 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2004--Rockstar Games,
the world-renowned publishing division of Take-Two
Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO - News), is pleased
to announce Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the next
iteration in the globally successful Grand Theft Auto
franchise. Developed by world-class designers Rockstar
North, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be available
exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment
system and is expected to be in stores in North America on
October 19, 2004 and in Europe on October 22, 2004.
"In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount
of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible
to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San
Andreas," stated Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games.
"Even though we still have eight months to go, we are
starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and
we can't wait to get the game into players' hands."

Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North, stated, "We are
extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto
series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever
to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will
hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and
revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production
values."

Over 30 million units of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have
been shipped to date, including over 11.5 million units of
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and over 10.5 million units of
Grand Theft Auto 3.

with how fast they are churning this one out, I have a
feeling that it's still the same engine... and for PS2
only??? Fuck Rockstar, apparently they think they can make
more money by releasing it on one system than releasing it
on four?

This is what you get for quitting computer games for almost
a year. Another GTA out of the blue.

With the money Sony keeps pumping them for exclusive rights,
they ARE making more money!

Think about this.

Vice City has been around for sometime now. I am not sure
how closely anyone here follows rockstar but it was the same
before vice city got released. At first there was the
"preorder to avoid disappointment" then after a month or two
a screenshot and a fake website got put up. Only within the
last four months before the game made its debut did actual
information/interviews/pictures get released.

If you followed the development of VC then you may remember
that there were a number of things that should have got
implemented into the game and were thrown out during
development. Kind of like how they said the motorcycle in
gta3 couldnt be done. Well it was in vice.

Structural damage was supposed to be in VC. You cant even
knick a building. All buildings were supposed to be
accessable for realism... during that process they changed
their minds and stated "that would be too boring".

There are going to be a lot of improvements and additions to
the game. This isnt just some add on pack (to my knowledge)
it should be a standalone game.

Overall i look forward to more information to be unveiled
and i will keep you all updated!

Yeah well, fuck Sony then!! I hate PS2. It's graphics are so
lame yet it still gets all the best games.. not fair!

Oh, I'm sure there'll be plenty of improvements using the
same engine, but in my opinion this game can't really be
ground breaking without a new engine. I'm not saying it
isn't going to be a fun game or very rewarding, I just think
Rockstar should stop trying to reap the big profits and
start trying to push the boundaries again, like they used to
do.

The follow-up to Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto:
Vice City. This time around, developer Rockstar North and
publisher Rockstar take players to San Andreas, California.
The choice of San Andreas goes back to the original 2D game
Grand Theft Auto, which featured a three-stage structure,
offering the levels Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas.
San Andreas was the second area players moved to as they
progressed through the quest. Expected to feature a look
into Chinese and Mexican gang life around San Andreas, the
anticipated third-person action game is slated to be
released exclusively for PlayStation 2 in October 2004.

Looking forward to it, kinda. I hope they shake it up or
give it a huge facelift. The game looks horribly aged... but
it's still fun as hell, that's what's important.

That new MechAssault game looks interesting, takes a page
from the GTA book, except you're jacking MECHS, not cars.
Sweetness.

this is the last game on sony's exclusivity contract with
rockstar, which was modified last year to allow an xbox port
1 year after the game is released on ps2. i personally love
this because they spend the extra year modifying the
graphics engine like they did with the other 2.

also, the pc versions always come out 2-4 months after the
ps2 version. i don't see any reason for rockstar to change
their release pattern from the other 2 for this one.

Info taken from Gouranga

Very little is known about GTA: San Andreas at this time.
Rockstar has confirmed the name and an October 2004 release
date, but that is about it. Retailers are currently
estimating an October 18th release, but at this point it's
just speculation.

If information is released on the same schedule as past GTA
titles we are likely to see the next big influx of
information just before E3. I'm guessing that prior to E3
Rockstar will launch a side/spin off San Andreas site that
will slowly leak information and screenshots. Just before
E3 we'll probably see one or two print previews, followed by
a full fledged media onslaught just after E3.

I think people are forgetting the important thing here:

Vice City had the awesome 80's soundtrack. What are we
getting for this one? I want a fully rephlexized soundtrack!
