Who records to tape?

I don't much, but its good to go back to old tapes and
listen to old stuff with a fresh perspective. You think oh
that sounds quite good I might go back and work on that or
whatever.

tape as in cassettes? Tapes sound the best! it's vinyl
style not all this 0 and 1 nonsense

I have downloaded stuff I have on tape and it sounds too
cold and sterile to the way I remember it. I actually
bought Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Raekwon on CD for my car
and it sounds so much worse than the cassette version I know
and love.

Same with a lot of my old drum and bass stuff I have, it
sounds a lot warmer and enveloping than a CD ripped version.

Yeah cassettes. Its been a while since I put shit to
cassette but every now and then I do it. Just in case I
loose all my files or a jet falls through the ceiling.

Anyone remember Akin from Irdial Discs he was a massive
advocate of analogue cassettes/vinyl etc etc? I don't know
it can be shitty sometimes when you record to cassette it
evens out the frequencies. Its true it does take the
sharpness of shit though.

i ALWAYS do...

dude, someone ripped off my mp3 player a few months back,
thanks to school i can't buy shit...

now i rely on my trusty sony walkman for all my musical
needs.

I'm just listening to a track which I did really in the
Drexciya vein. I ought to get the taped version to mp3.

Personally I only see that, Liquid Swords and Enter the 36
chambers as the only really good Wu albums, everything else
was either average or shit. Cuban Links was a classic from
start to finish though.

It's just like taking a picture with a digital camera or
analog.. maybe the analog is out of focus? maybe the digital
has red eye reduction? maybe I should be in bed as I'm
pissed out of my brains and I need to get up in a few
hours....

but....

Tapes do add something special otherwise BOC wouldn't spend
lots of their time playing around with all that

I got this Ozrics type midi file mix and it sounds groovy. I
converted it to an electro type vibe, its sounds totally
analogue on tape.

ecnadniarb,

What about Ol' Dirty Bastard, his first record? Man that
shit is wicked! Thinking of it I just love to get that shit
playing now. I got that on tape.

'Shame on you when you step to the ol' dirty bastard!
BROOKLYN ZOO!'

Still got to check out Liquid Swords...

I'm no huge fan of rap, I kinda have 'no room to talk'
because I have barely grazed the surface of the genre, but
Cuban Linx is still an undeniable classic.

yep...the production was so raw on it, all the little
mistakes and roughness is what made it though, and I think
when Rza got hold of better equipment he lost some of the
charm from his work.

that's one of my favourite albums! It's funny, it's raw,
it's dope and everything.

There was a time I recall when the Wu Tang were just cool
period. Everyone was into them they were just the coolist
and freshest rappers. Don't know what the view is now. I
remember each new solo project had a lot of buzz about it.

There was some stuff on ODB's album I really liked. Other
parts I thought were a bit weak and stopped it being a
classic. I still think Damage with Gza is one of the Wu's
shining moments...Rza's music is perfect for their voices
and style of rap in that track.

I have got two of them (I think there was talk of a third I
don't know if it was ever released though). 6 Feet Deep and
The Pick, The Sickle and The Shovel. I prefered 6 Feet
Deep, Prince Paul is a quality producer as well. Did you
ever check out the Prince Among Theives album?

DeLtoiD,

In the future they'll be all the rage. Walkmans will come
back into fashion. Its like anything you bet old tapes and
shit they're have like premium on them or whatever.

i've got some pump-organ and slide-guitar recorded to a
tape. recorded it last summer, I think. we only had a mixer
with tape-recording, so we used that.

the best is changing the speed of tapes :) me mixer has a
wee knob for that purpose - curly style!

I've broken all my tape decks so I can't. Otherwise I would
be with the tape still. There's a ncie warm sound to tape at
times. But you've got to record it properly. Do it too loud
and you get ghost tracks next time you record over it. Too
quiet and you get too much fuzz. Man, tapes were great.

I always use to tape to record works in progress then I
listen to it in bed and see what needs worked on. Tapes
rule.

I've got loads of 4-track tapes of me with crappy equipment
like spoons and half full wine glasses making some mad
freeform jazz.

I used to smoke a lot of hash.

go to waste because the tape does, otherwise i could have
listened to it someday for fun. still good i play guitar and
not violin. i once watched a episode miami vice with the
music by foreigner, i wanna know what love is, if im
correct, that was so terribly out of tune it wasnt funny
