It's the big DVD announcement you've all been waiting for:
Lucasfilm and Twentieth Century Fox have announced the DVD
Release for Star Wars Trilogy DVD on September 21st. This
special 4 disc box set will include the three 'original'
Star Wars movies (Star Wars IV: A New Hope, Star Wars V: The
Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi)
presented in THX Anamorphic Widescreen and Dolby Digital-EX.
Each film will be released in the 'Special Edition' version
(including the changes made to the films for their
theatrical re-release in 1997) and feature audio commentary
by George Luca s and select members of the cast and crew. In
addition to the three features the box set will also feature
a fourth disc including making-of documentaries and features
for the 3 films as well as a 2 hour documentary including
never-before-seen footage. There will NOT be an option to
view the films in their original theatrical version and the
films will not be sold individually. Exact pricing for the
set, specific disc extras and an official pre-order date to
be announced in the weeks ahead.

i hate the fact that the prequels killed my love of the
starwars storyline.

i mean, don't get me wrong, the originals will always be
classics, and i will probably buy this boxed set... but,
they'll never be on the same pedestal that they were on
before jar-jar and his hijinx.

this box set is going to be overpriced I guarantee it...I
will wait until I can steal it. I haven't seen any of the
Star Wars films get so another couple of years won't make
any difference.

agreed, it shouldn't affect your opinions on the first films
but it still does, how can it be the same person making
these new ones? It's like the last 2 Matrix films, I used to
love the first one but the sudden way they went downhill was
just such a shock and it makes you think "was that first one
really good if the same people can make this shit?"

aaah shit not the tampered-with versions.. those suck. :(

why not bring out the old skool star wars.. damn.. I was
afraid they'd do this..

there's so much wrong with the prequels that it just makes
me sad.

and i'm not talking bad special effects, or even jar-jar
being annoying, because c3po was sorta like that too.

but, they seemed really bad. fragmented plot tangents that
spiral off into nowhere, dumbed down clichéd one liners, i
don't even know...

i could actually hear my childhood innocence being crushed,
lifeless and cold by episode one. then, as it hovered above
my empty shell of an awkward bitter adult body i was forced
to watch episode II spit on it.

i'm scared of episode III.

what's wrong with the special editions? They are superior,
if only for the fact that they are digitally remastered...
but I love the added scenes anyway!

crappy movies, I hated them. the original 3 were great!...
the new 2 ruined... them... ruined!

The orginal three were not blighted by the prequels. I'm
sure quite a lot of people prefer the originals, but most
people are sensible enough to see this.

As to the original versions not being on the DVD, George
Lucas did say when the special editions were released that
they were the 'definitive' versions of Star Wars....the way
they were meant to be. Also, the original versions would
have been to poor in terms of picture quality to put on DVD,
this was also mentioned in the small documentary on the 'A
New Hope' video that was released not so long ago.........in
a galaxy far far away! :P

why not just re-master the originals without the new scenes?
They could at lease take the STUPID Gredo scene! WTF was all
that about? Missing from an inch away? Did he have too much
to drink or something?

stupid cgi crap added to them. It really ruins the films for
me. Stupid Lucas cant leave good films to rest

I guess most of you had different experiences, but as a HUGE
fan of the originals all my life and having seen them so
many times, I was fucking thrilled to see new content.. I
thought the CGI was pretty good, but maybe it isn't by most
standards (dunno). I still feel that the special editions
are the definitive versions though.

just a note: on the terminator (#1) dvd, you can turn the
special edition *on and off!* like, with new scenes or
without. hopefully they'll do that for star wars too. i
really hope so.

i lied. i couldn't afford the millenium falcon, my brother
had an x-wing fighter and a crappy lander thing from the

that he's ripped off r2-d2's head by turning him upside down
and moving the legs around 180 degrees and holding it in the
middle
