I can only play a GBA if it's hooked up through a GC to a
TV.. my neck cant handle the constantly looking down, and
small screens are for pussies.

I played it at best buy, it fucking kicks ass.

BUT I cant beat bad Samus for the life of me. I can only
freeze her but then she fires at me and by 5 shots im dead
(im talking about metroid fusion) they said to run from her
so this is my second time running into her and I cant do
shit....am I missing something? I know im missing that
lightning thing but still can you tell me how i can beat
bad samus??

"they said to run from her"

They were right. But this is an extremely hard (and also
extremely fun :-) Don't you just love that adrenaline rush?)
part of the game.

You're talking about the part where you fall down a screen,
and then suddenly she's right in front of you?

You've got to freeze her, run to the left as fast as
possible. Freeze her again, go to the next room. In the next
room stand on the platform and turn to the right... as soon
as the enters the room, freeze her again. Put a superbomb by
the wall in the middle of the room... freeze her again.
After the wall blows up, run as far to the left as possible,
until you find a huge pillar where you can hide behind.

I could litterally feel my heart pounding when I played this
part :-p

I CAN'T WAIT to play Zero Mission! I wish they'd release it
over here already! hurry up nintendo... please!

On a more 16-bit note, I completed Super Metroid on the SNES
earlier this week for the 2nd time in my life.

And I can't tell you how much I'd love a new console
with which to play new games on. It's quite depressing

i'm at the end of metroid prime right now. i have to get 2
more artifacts then fight the mother of all metroids i
guess. i didn't get the 100% though :( it's a good game but
i don't know how much i could see myself replaying it.

also, while on the topic of videogames. EA may be remaking
goldeneye. this seems kind of odd though since it's only 1
console old.

Metal Gear Solid's remake is just a month or so away, and
RE's was successful, so now they're coming out of the
woodwork! And I can't say I mind, they've been a smashing
success.

But it would be better if they put all that energy into
brand new adventures. But to their credit, many have tried
to top Goldeneye with new Bond games... none have come
close.

it's a shame that Rare can't get behind the remake of
goldeneye, it's just about the only movie liscenced game
that hasn't sucked big time,

RE:4 sounds very intreresting on the gamecube, especially
after hearing about the option of a 1st person view. Also,
No FMV with everything rendered on the fly, and no
more door loading sequences!

METAL GEAR for cube looks nice, but I'm far more interested
in the PS2 version which is in the jungle "predator" style.

yeah i beat it on wednesday..

sweet game. nice surprise at the end..

I really enjoyed what they added to the original game (the
secret rooms and extra abilities/weapons), but what I
appreciate more is how much they kept the same. I loved
seeing rooms that I haven't seen in.. 16 years (my god,
could it have been that long?!) revamped on the new console.
I loved how true they stayed to the original score as well.

<3

Good game, good game..

ok, I thought I got that for finishing it, but I guess you
get it for linking it up also with fusion.

Since this is a Metroid thread can anyone here explain to me
the correct way to shinespark? I charge up then press down,
I flash and then I get confused as to what exactly triggers
the shinespark itself apart from the jump button. I'd really
like to master it so I can spark in specific directions at
will.

My cousin got it the other day, but I've yet to give it a
go. Gotta download it soon. I've got lots of other video
game obligations, gotta beat a ton of them before the
incoming deluge of powerhouse titles.

I prefer the Castlevania RPG side scrollers to Metroid's,
though. Fusion was ridiculously easy, except for that
fucking Nightmare boss, and I expect Zero Mission will be
the same. Nintendo isn't helping their ''kiddy'' image by
serving up pushovers...

Just finished Zero Mission for the second time (this time on
the GBA though, first time I played with a GBplayer. I gotta
say it plays much better with a D-pad than with a
controlstick. Especially tapping down twice to become a
morphball is annoying with a controlstick. But on the other
hand, the location of the L and R buttons on the GBA is not
so pleasant).

*spoiler alert*

Well I'm probably stupid, but I still don't understand the
ending of the game. Maybe some explanation at the end
wouldn't have heard. What's going on with that huge painting
of the powersuit in the ruim where you have to fight the
thing with the image of yourself in an orb? As you enter
that room you see samus as a little girl holding hands with
some sort of monster's claw. And then as you finish the game
you see the same painting again. It zooms in and then you
see a children's drawing of Samus as a little girl and two
bird-like creatures.

So... what does that all mean? Maybe I should finish Metroid
Prime first and see if there are some more clues there. I've
played all the metroids except prime but have never come
across bird-like creatures :-/

On the subject of zero mission though: awesome game! You can
definitely still recognise the original game... but all the
changes they've made have also been improvements imo. The
extra bit at the end was also brilliantly done. I guess now
I should try to beat it on difficult.

i loved this game for a few very good reasons

ive only ever played metroid (NES) metroid II (GB) and super
metroid (SNES), i never gave prime or fusion a chance, too
ugly from what i invisioned a sequel to be (super
metroid'ish)
then came along zero mission, with nicely detailed maps
similar to SM, and... AND more exposure of the chozo race,
which is what i pondered as a child while playing super
metroid.

allow me..

there was a super metroid comic in nintendo power magazine
some years ago. the backstory of samus is that she was in a
ship wreck on zebes as a little girl and was raised by the
humble chozo race, who spliced her dna with chozo dnz giving
her amazing strength and powers, she was fathers by the
great old chozo, and he crafted her suit with achient chozo
technology.

Ceri is right, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is tooooo fun.

This game was cool too, even though Im very frusterated
trying to get all of the extra goodies: missle tanks, energy
tanks, etc.

I'd say the game is a tad too easy, unlike the original of
course.

I see...

Thank you very much. That's pretty interesting :-)
I remember from the few hours of Metroid Prime that I've
played that she was also scanning ancient Chozo lore and
wandering around Chozo Ruins. Maybe in a future-episode of
Metroid they'll dig even deeper in her past. I'd like that.

I guess knowing this makes Zero Mission ending a little
better. But some text to explain what was going on would
still have been nice. But I'm just nitpicking now... it's
the game that counts and that's really excellent.

"I'd say the game is a tad too easy, unlike the original
of
course.
"

True. Those statues that mark on your map where you're
supposed to go next are kind of... stupid. It's like they're
ruining the fun... the exploration! But it's not that bad.
Atleast all the locations they mark are usually off the map
in secret corridors. So there's still that element of having
to find the secret entrances.

offline D-Steak from Kansas City, Mo. (United States) on 2004-05-20 16:35 [#01198843]
Points: 1376 Status: Regular

Agreed.

Those statues are a little cheesy, they give you too much
information.

BTW - There are some places in the game that have the blocks
that must be broken through with the turbo sprint thing...

Anyways some of these places are impossible to pick up that
much speed in such a small spot.

How do you do it?

offline surrounded from it won't be hard anymore to li on 2004-05-20 16:52 [#01198870]
Points: 3787 Status: Regular | Followup to D-Steak: #01198843

Well it depends. There are alot of those places, and they
all have different solutions. Altough I probably haven't
found them all yet.

But you did know (hopefully) that you can also pass through
a door without losing speed. So on some occasions you might
need to pick up the speed in the room next to the room that
has the blocks in it.

Alot of those blocks also need to be broken vertically.
Sometimes there's one of those "canons" hidden somewhere
below it (you go in as a morphball, set a bomb, and then you
het launched). Or you can just jump yourself. Did you know
that too? Once you've picked up so much speed that you start
flashing and can break through walls and so... you can also
push down one time and Samus will stand still. And if you
push the jump button then she will make a HUGE jump also
breaking through those nasty blocks.

Well and that's all I could think of :-/ Hope it helps.

Something that's been boterhing me: near the start of the
game. In one of the first corridors of Brinstar there is an
energy-tank hidden in the ceiling. If you stand under it and
shoot the ceiling you can see it. But I can never jump high
enough to reach it. It was driving me mad earlier today. No
matter what I tried I just couldn't get it. And you don't
get the spacejump until the very end of the game... so there
has to be another way... there has to be!
