just been thinking, i don't think i've ever seen less than
20 people online browsing the messageboard here, plus
there's the discography, galleries and all the xltvibes and
shit like that hosted - the xltronic.com server must be one
hell of a busy mofo.

By whom are you guys hosted? What is the server load like?

once you log in, unless you log out or quit your browser,
while you're online you appear in the "now online" list,
whether or not you're interacting with xltronic.

we're running a linux-based dedicated server = SPEED.

loads of more data coming up, so we need the margins.

sessions are valid for 15 mins, so there are always ppl
dropping out / dropping in. the server is pushing about 200
Gb / month to you guys.

but I've left this page open all day before and come back to
it and never had to re-log in or anything... is it because I
have it set to "remember me"?

btw, mad props on this being the best forum ever, phob.

but unless you interact with the site your session will be
killed and you'll disappear from the online list. as soon as
you come back your session become active again.

all 53 people online right now are active (have clicked on a

big respect for all donations! unfortunately the site would
need about 10 new donations each month to get things smooth,
but reality is much less than that, perhaps $20 each month
in average.

you could always put up a big ugly unibrowed scarecrow to
run off some of the extra bandwidth.

...jokes, jokes.

how about changing some things on the website. things like
categories of topics and not showing 25 topics on a page but
10 for example. Do you have any statistics where the most of
the traffic comes? Is it text, pictures, downloads of the
mp3s? I think if you observe what is "wasting" more traffic
you could change it into a more user-friendly thing.

for example i think it is good when you click another time
on a topic you already "read" (or have visited) the php
script should notice it and show you only the unread, new
text, and a link "read older messages" in order to read the
older comments, if you need. All in all you could decline
the traffic to 20 % i think, sorry i cannot programm in php
(yet) but i think it must be easy to do such things.

actually the high amount of traffic is not a problem. 200 gb
/ month is only 50% of our allowed bandwidth transfer.

welcome back.... yes, you can..... we will add the donation
to your already running period, so it will get extended.

let's say you donated $10 on 2003-08-15. meaning your
premium account is active until 2004-08-15. but in anytime
you can donate for example 10 more bucks and extend your
period til 2005-08-15.

in fact there are several premium account running out of
time as we speak. "our robot" will contact you soon. :)

what's the problem then, phob? I mean, is there no solution
to pay only for the half bandwidth? Are you on a internet
provider, or do you have the computer at home, and made it a
server. if the latter, then i think it is no matter of
traffic fees. Or do you have ADSL with Traffic volume?

the matter with showing only the unread messages of a thread
is worth introducing it, though! :D
