there and take it onboard a plane NO PROBLEM.

some friends recommended it as they're very pleased with
theirs, an i only read good reviews...so i think it's quite
a good choice :)

and no one posted any downsides yet (exepct for
exploding...), so yeah, it could be the right choice

one downside of sony cameras that i've heard of would be the
type of memory cards those cameras use. i've been told
they're more expensive and even a bit slower than cards like
compact flash or smart media.

is this true?

i think 128 kb card is about 60 EUR...i have no idea how
much other cost.

Looks great, but if I would be buying a cam with
non-exchangable lenses, I'd look at something with a 10x
zoom. Check out the Olympus C-750. I don't know how much
more (or less, this is Sony after all) it costs. It has a
lens that goes from 38-380mm (SLR equivalent).

The Olympus is less, but it's a 4Mpix cam. Still, I'd think
about that zoom range. Compare the optics too. Both have 2.8
as the largest aperture, but the Olympus wins at the zoom
range with it's largest aperture of 3.7. The Sony goes to
max zoom of 28mm and has a max aperture of 4 at that range.
The Olympus goes to 63mm and still manages to go below 4.
Maybe the sensors are different sizes, but it can't differ
that much.

One advantage for the Sony is the larger ISO setting
possible, 800 compared to 400 for the Olympus. The Sony only
takes memory sticks, which is a big downside economically.
The only Sony that takes CF is the F828.

thanks...i'll check the reviews for those that you
mentioned. but im pretty sure they all cost much more :(
the thing is i don't need some really great camera as im
only going to take some pics here and there, it's more for
fun than anything serious :)

Here the Sony is more expensive. The Sony is probably an
excellent camera, but you pay for the Sony name and the
memory sticks, and don't win that much in comparison.
