I notice a lot of people will be talking about a band then
be like "My favorite songs is..." then they name some INSANE
rare bootleg that only had 2 pressings lol.

Pisses me off cause obviously NO ONE has heard of it.

We are all guilty of this from time to time (weather it is
intentional or not) so lets all be a bunch of snot nosed
pricks this thread and name of some really rare hard to
find/unknown crap : )

I really like Phoenix - Rising High.
You may never have heard this chillout artist (which has
worked under different names) but I have spend more than 100
hours listening to this track, many times for several hours
in a row...
It's amazing.

DIFFERENT DRUMMER! and its in mono. Hav'nt had the cash to

Balls! :P
Few people have a copy of hab 2, but the tracks on it are
some of aphex's best work... Similarly Radiohead's You Never
Wash Up After Yourself is a great lesser known track of
theirs. You think I oughtn't mention them to "casual
listeners" of both these artists for fear of looking like an
elitist?

Really mentioning tracks people haven't heard of is no
different to mentioning artists or even genres they have no
concept of. If someone asks me my top 10 tracks I'll tell
them the truth- not the top 10 tracks I think they'll know
:)

the age of file sharing makes elitism difficult. i wonder
how many people on discogs actually own each item, as
opposed to a collection of files. indeed, i've only heard
hab on mp3.

i do find it amusing when an elitist collector laments the
ubiquity of mp3's of their precious rare records, though.
they would rather deny everyone else the pleasure of hearing
the music to preserve the rarity of the recording.

plaid- yes I agree totally... people who begrudge people
having mp3s of their rare records have quite a bad attitude
imo. I suppose it's because traditionally they would trade
(copies of) them with other "elite collectors". They don't
seem to realise that with really good releases like HAB, the
fact most people know the tracks and really like them
actually increases their monetary value.

the curb creeper- yes... my iron lung ep and how am I
driving are some of my favourite releases by them.

My favorite Beatles song is Wildcat, first version. If
you've never heard it, you know nothing about music and that
means I'm smarter than you. Only boring idiots like Hey Jude
the most.

Be honest- would you of bought (or at least paid as much as
you have) half your rare releases if you'd not heard the
mp3s first?

skinny puppy - intolerance

there were only 1500 printed i think. it has a big piece of
lead glued to the cover with the SP logo stamped in it.

it has the track "left hand shake" which was supposed to be
track 11 (i think?) on Last Rights but was removed because
of copyright issues.

for autechre it's early hip hop as in cold crush brothers,
Big daddy kane old things, BDP, 'letter to the better' etc.

that plus new technology.....

Why don't YOU mix placebo with nirvana or whatever?

If you've read any if the reveling interviews with aphex, he
admits that he just fills in.

There's Jungle - speed it up
There's 'micro music' make micro music with a music box
