Does anybody know with Richard is producing work under the name of Kid 606, on teh new Depeche Mode single Dream on, there is a remix by Kid 606, this has got to be the twin, sounds just like him, if it's not it's somebody who whould like to be or is influenced by Richard |

I was reading about Kid 606 in STUFF magazine.. [you know they do MAXIM also]..anyway he was like number 7 or something on their 100 most dangerous people of the year! erm KID 606 is a waste of time in my opinion. Erm,there hasnt been a wonder kid in all of electronic music since Aphex Twin, everyone else are mere disciples of him. Aphex still is the master of the whole dance/electronic scene. I think its funny, but a lot of people dont even know that Aphex is regarded as the most advanced and talented artist in the whole dance/dj/electronic culture. Hes still leaps ahead of everyone! Heres part of a review of some big festival in Israel a few months ago. Both Kid 606 and Aphex DJ's there: An appearance by Aphex Twin at midnight ensures the tent is customarily heaving on the final night. Before him, People Like Us' Vicki Bennet weaves an alluring spell using field recordings, folk records and synthetic drones. Next, jetlagged San Francisco PowerBook jockey Kid 606, face bathed in the screen's luminosity, spends an hour reprocessing and dissecting vintage hip-hop, splicing glitch after click into tracks by Detroit Grand Pubahs and NWA. As thrilling as the Kid's set is, it sounds PREHISTORIC compared to the music loaded onto Richard James' hard-drive. Aphex may have the same records as everyone else - old skool hip-hop, early jungle, deviant rave - but the ways in which he plays them, his ability to forge new from old, never ceases to amaze. Pity poor Expander, Lisbon's hottest techno DJ, who follows him with a commendable effort. But by now the tent is deserted. And the rain pours down once more. |

IF there is a wonderkid ov techno, i would say that its Ovuca....That kid is putting out as much as Rich use too, And most of it is just as good as The Twins. Plus, his remix on the migros album is really really good, if i sent an mp3 of it and said it was aphex, you'd probably be inclinded to believe me. I guess thats why rich signed him to a contract. Kid 606 mostly sucks, i kind of like the gq on the eq album, but its more of a drone with melodies. Perhaps it is because he uses the same program on every track whichs makes it all sound alike. oh yeah, that song was "luke vibert can kiss my indie punk white boy ass" |

Ovuca is good, but since some of it sounds like RDJ or is inspired by him doesnt make him a so called Wonderkid by any matter of means. A true visionary and pioneer in any artform comes up with something totally unusual and new. Ovuca doesnt have that gift , as much as I like his music. but it aint revolutionary. The only true contender might be Squarepusher.. |

Considering that most of Ovucas stuff on lactavent was written before 97 should show that he has a pioneer vision. Im not gonna float his boat, but thats because he doesnt really need it. One other person would be Global goon, Mainly because he shows the same talent in his music. He also knows how to make a good percussion riff, These are just artist who make good music and shouldn't be compared with anybody. They didnt get into music with the purpose of taking over anyones spot. And in the end, no person will be satisfied with the next wonder kid until aphex himself says "this guy will give the world something to talk about" ie mozart about beethoven. So we should stop all communication about this, unless you just want to have fun and toss thoughts around without worry of being told you are wrong. And richard devine is not aphex. Torley wong is though... |

Ok, I know its silly debating this, but Ovuca couldnt have made any of the stuff unless Aphex had been there before him. Same with Global Goon... Aphex came up with that Ovuca 1997 stuff way back in 1995. Ofcourse ya can compare, because its all IDM music of which Aphex is the spearheader followed closely by Autechre and Black Dog/Plaid, the rest of em barring Squarepusher and U-ziq are all followers and almost Aphex wannabes who just want to be on that same Rephlex label with the master himself. |

One would have to admit that alot of Aphexs better moments were due to styles being partially created by others close to him. I think thered be no HAB1 and 2 w/out Luke Vibert and Tom Jenkinson for instance. Richard has the ability to mimick, mock, and master the styles that his mates dabble in making a more perminent wave for the rest of the IDMers to ride. After all, surfing requires more than just sinewaves. |
