For me file sharing can only be a good thing for music...to a degree. If its treated as a way of checking new music etc before you buy it can only be a positve thing. But if everyone became a leech and didn't buy anything the whole thing could implode on itself. Besides, especially with electronic music, there's a limit to the quality you can get with MP3- the little nuances that can make such a difference can be lost. Are there any leeches out there who disagree?

This debate will go on for as long as there's the internet. File sharing will happen and there's fuck all they can do really. Whether people do it to discover new music or test an album out is irrelevant. I think it's in New Zealand it's been reported that file sharing has led to an increase in music sales of lesser known artists. Those that aren't hyped to the bollocks are benefitting from this. I've got 7gigs of music on my computer and I don't give a shit what the RIAA think. A lot of it is hard to find stuff that I haven't managed to get yet. The rest is just random junk I've got to see what it's like.

i've got about 5,000 songs on the compy box do-hickey
i use mp3's as a way to preview music, seeing as how i dont live near any record stores
i also use them because i collect vinyl and want my songs to be portable and exchangable (mainly with friends and family)
for me, w/o mp3's, i would have missed out on THOUSANDS of artists - that idea bothers me
so i support file sharing - but i also support buying lots of music...because i do both

I'd say peer to peer has caused a doubling in the number of records I buy. RIAA don't have a clue.

I wonder why the labels are not listening to the fanbase when they request such gems as the HAB series on CD? (that was just an example)
That would sell a lot.

i thought about that a lot times and i havent found any logic exponation,
why they dont do it.
but im quite satisfied with my burned copy, by now i would pre-listen in the shop to compare the quality, if that is possible and take it if it shows more quality.
so maybe its not rereleased cause everybodys got it already on cd.
TOPIC: Tapes are shit if the batteries are low and some walkmen dont manage to play the correct speed anyway.
at home there is no reason to quit tapes. they last, sound well and everyone of us has got loads of it, i guess.

the RIAA can burn in hell for all I care.
Computers are not always the kindest of machines, so i still use tape quite a bit - especially to record my live show.

i didn't read the thread, but last night i dreamt some indie rock obsessive girl was threatening me with violence if i didn't delete my entire mp3 collection (because it was hurting the artists)
