Yeah I had a post not too long ago about how i just
discovered vinyl

Well my record player is being fucking dumb as hell and I
was wondering if maybe you could help me.

1. I can hardly hear it, the volume is on 40 and I have to
put on headphones to even be able to hear it.

2. It's staticy and shitty sounding, it sounds AWFUL.

so what the fuck should I do, buy a new record player? buy
a new needle? what?

i think to solve the volume issue I will just buy a pair of
those wireless headphones that come with their own volume
adjustment, i think.

this is frustrating as fuck, someone help

not

which i doubt very much you do

what make is it? check under the slipmat thing for a switch
for a pre-amp

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2003-12-07 13:56 [#00980853]

its what amplifies the signal before it gets to the main
circuit thingy

offline Amnesiac from ERIE (United States) on 2003-12-07 13:56 [#00980855]

okay i took the slipmat off, no pre-amp

offline Amnesiac from ERIE (United States) on 2003-12-07 13:57 [#00980857]

wait, i found a switch type thing but it doesn't say
anything ill try it

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2003-12-07 13:57 [#00980859]

you need an amplifier inbetween the turntable and the stereo
input otherwise you wont be able to hear anything. you cant
just plug it into an auxiliary socket. if there's no pre-amp
you might be able to get away with plugging it into your
computer via thre soundcard

Have you reversed the needle position yet? You need to do
that before you start messing around with the pre amp
spoons.

offline Amnesiac from ERIE (United States) on 2003-12-07 14:04 [#00980868]

Ho ho..

sorry, I was being silly.

You need something to boost the signal from the deck like a
Dj style mixer or a 'pre amp' any old cheap dj mixer will
do.

flick over and it has 2 sides to it

He can either turn it inside out, or just squeeze the
slipmat jelly, that's what I'd do anyway...

i swear im telling the truth! i mean in those old 60s
players that came in a flip top box. the stylus was L-shaped
and after it ran out you pushed the plastic perpendicular to
the arm and used the other side

anyone know if it's cheap or expensive to fix the wiring in
my turntable? it's from the 70s and it works outside of the
connector to the right speaker being "jammed" so that it
doesn't transmit any sound to that speaker (headphones work
in stereo though)

could it be the speaker wiring or the connection between the
speaker wire and the stereo? just wiggle it around for half
an hour til it works

you could put both sets of wires into one socket...

i'm not sure, as it's in storage in maryland right now
instead of here in my dorm room, but i will have a look next
time i see it. if by speaker wiring you mean the inexpensive
wiring that you use for any stereo to connect to the
speakers, i'd be surprised if it was this though i will
check because i have plenty of wiring i can replace it with.
i really think it's a connection, something internal that
would require a pro or at least a knowledgable amateur to
fix. i really don't want to buy another turntable if i can
just fix this one..

also can you recommend any EP's or singles that are
exclusively on vinyl? i want to get the Boom Bip 'from left
to right' and Astrobotnia pt. 2. i already have LFO 'Freak'
and i still haven't heard that damn last track after all
this time! so combined with a collection of vinyl albums
i've inherited i'm itching to get this turntable fixed.

goddamnit! he doesnt need a preamp!!! you fools!!!!! dude,
amnesiac, all you have to do is plug the turntable into the
PHONO input of the stereo. if there
isnt a dedicated phono input, there should be a switch
somewhere near the plug to switch it from aux to phono. but
thats what you have to do, no preamp needed.

Have you tried licking your fingers and playing with the
power supply within the turntable?

offline hedphukkerr from mathbotton (United States) on 2003-12-07 14:38 [#00980958]

o yeah, and if you cant find anything to do with phono, buy
a new stereo, because the one you have is obviously a piece
of shit if it doesnt have a goddamn phono input.

......sorry for the flip out, i feel a little on edge
tonight....

i can recommend threads by backini, a cross between the
avalanches and quantic, yet another superb album spawned in
brighton. unfortunately it seems its cd only but there are
some eps you can get some of the tracks on. i wouldve
started a new thread on it but no fucker wouldve even heard
of brighton nevermind backini.
