the madlib blue note remix album

did you know he's remixing radiohead's "sit down, stand up"?
and in true "aphex twin" fashion he claims he'd never heard
of them before till he was asked

Tits, you heard the Bear Witness III track with Q-bert?
(Bear Witness I + II were with other turntabilists)

album w/ dj shadow on the breaks.

be sure to ground the turntable as well, thats probably what
is responsible for the buzzing sound

What's so great about q-bert is he doesn't feel the need to
show off... he just does what sounds best, none of this
speed noise nonsense like the way DMC is going. Most of the
routines on the Do It Yourself Skratching DVD, he only
scratches on one table whilst letting the record play on the
other, but he does all the scratches on that one table
perfectly, you never see him 360/720 it back to a
sample when he has skipped it or slightly miss the start/end
of a sample... even other "greats" like shortkut and cut
chemist make those sort of minor mistakes on a fairly
regular basis and most people consider it acceptable (even
on studio albums- listen carefully to the end of periodic
table and you'll spot the mistake). It think that's why
q-bert (like koala) is so strong when someone else such as
Automator is doing the music and they're just scratching
along on one deck- they do it flawlessly.

q-bert is a gentleman and a true talent. #1 turntablist in
the world as far as i'm concerned.

on a barely related topic, did you know that automator and
mark bell from lfo have been planning for years to do an
album together? how sick would that be? i think mark bell
totally nails automator's musical style on the "turbulence
(remix)" (not actually a remix, FYI) track on deltron 3030.
of all the automator projects that may be the one i'm
looking forward to most. (click here for a list of other things automator is up to)

Man, LFO Vs. Automator would be wild! :D

Did you know Qbert has a new book (I think it's a biography
on him) in the works?

Yep Q-bert certainly is a gentleman, he seems to have a
great degree of humility and is a big two fingers up at the
stereotypical boasting swagger often associated with hip
hop.

That Automator project sounds interesting... I noticed
cLOUDDEAD on your site, that Listener album I recommended to
you is on the same label as them (Mush).

i might've heard something about a q-bert book but i don't
know or remember any of the details.. i know he has his
hands in a lot of pies (on a lot of tables?!). i wonder if
he's made any recent forays into film/animation? i need to
see the rest of wave twisters, the excerpt on scratch is
really fun.

Mush has some cool stuff. have you heard the cLOUDDEAD
album? they're associated with the anticon clicque but
they're a lot more creative and original than some of the
others in anticon. definitely check out the debut
'cLOUDDEAD' cd, it has everything from ambient to
psychedelic-infused hip-hop.

If you've not seen wavetwisters, I hope you don't miss
" class="message">this...

If you liked that, I strongly recommend you see Fingathing
live next time they're in the USA. Scratch DJ, Electric
Double Bass player and a VJ doing wavetwisters style visuals
in time to the music!

Not heard much cLOUDDEAD bar what's on the mush site and
their boom bip remix.
