I'd really like to get into some of this music but I don't
know where to start!

Can someone recommend me albums/compilations/artists I
should check out in this genre? I've after anything phat,
exciting, not too repetitive.

Thanks/

Hmmm a few names that nobody knows of...

Black sun empire (raw thang)
Spy technologies.

And if you find any d'n'b and disco records snap them up, i
would tell you who they were by but i can't because they are
white labels that my friend has. But disco drum and bass is
great!

John Rolodex on dread records has released some nice stuff.
'the soldiers' ep is a nice variant on the classic dread
beat/style, and the industries ep, he did with cartridge has
some good dnb fused with a cheeky 303 bass line which will
make your head nod, the 'industries; ep has a good selection
of tracks. very nice.....
oh and get some stuff by calyx too, theyre good, esp the
calyx vs. dom n roland mixes. all my vinyl is upstairs and
cant be bothered to look it up. use discogs.com......oh and
no ones mentioned trace, hes good, but think he does house
now??? dom n roland/ed rush and optical/ bad comapny are
all good places to start.

Thanks everyone, after downloading some of the artists
mentioned I'm gonna have a christmas list with a lot of drum
and bass ;)

Btw, are drum and bass gigs worth checking out? Or are the
people less friendly then the Rephlex ones I've been to
(where you can wear what you want and it doesn't matter if
you can't dance, hehe)

d&b nights are definitely worth going to. maybe i've been
lucky, but its only rarely ive gone to a night with a
negative/macho or agressive attitude. the increase in vocal
tunes & latin influenced tunes in the last few years has
brought plenty of girls back into the clubs, so its not such
a testosterone-heavy feel in most d&b clubs.. which is a
good thing.

just like any electronica or techno night - the atmosphere
really depends on who turns up - and that depends on who's
playing & what kind of d&b theyre playing.. its worth
checking out before you go along - obviously.

ive always had a lot of fun & drumandbass nights. the only
drawback ive found is that there are a lot of d&b djs who
dont have a very openminded or eclectic approach to the
dancefloor - there are too many who arent very inventive in
what they play. a good bet is to try a night with different
kinds of djs playing in different rooms: that tends to
result in a merging of styles. for instance, ive been to a
few nights with big d&b names in the main room & (for
example) the scratch perverts in the back room: every time,
the pervs dropped some d&b & oldskool jungle into their
scratch/hiphop sets & the d&b djs would always work a little
electro or hiphop into their set to break it up a bit.
same rules have applied to big techno/d&b nights ive been
to.
am i making sense.. im tired.

laters.

I only like 1 proper dnb artist: Current Value - the rest of
it is total shite IMO

I love VSnares, Squarepusher and shit like that b/c it's
actually interesting - but I don't consider it straight up
drum 'n bass.
