Been listening to the new Plaid album (it's called Spokes
for those of you who are sitting in the dark), and I'm
having a hard time placing it on the map.

I know there have been a few old threads on this topic, but
if you had to give this album a score out of 10, what would
you give it and why.

Thanks mates. For some reason, this album kinda reminds me
of a much much better "The Altogether" from Orbital.

6. The DialP mix was the best thing about the release.
Spokes isn't bad, it's just not all that good.

Naw...just the album as a whole.

What's this DialP business? Is this the bonus mix? Is it a
special limited addition (i.e. should I order it NOW?)

I give this album a 6/10.

It's like Plaid said:

Ed: "Hey Andy...ya know how Autechre have fractured
rhythms, and breaks, and it sometimes sounds entirely
random?"

Andy: "Yeah I know what you're talkin about Ed."

Ed: "Let's take that same concept except do it with our
melodies instead."

Andy: "Good one Ed. We can call our new album Spokes"

you get the overall rating by rating the tracks.

I'll accept any form of critique. Figures / Numbers / Stars
/ whatever.

I think Phob means that we all should rate Spoks in the
discography. Not in an own thread.

Er hello?

I give Spokes a 4, Dial P 9. And I gave up doing the rating
thing in the discog, it's a pain in the arse.

Dial P rocks. Myopia live in birmingham is my favorite. Is
'angry dolphin' from a previous release of theirs?

This is the best thing Plaid's done in my opinion. 8/10? I
wasn't a fan until I heard this album. Go ahead, seach the
MB archive, there's proof :P.

It certainly seems like their most "technical" album.
Without a doubt it's a lot moodier and darker, and I'm
starting to think that I might just not be used to their
turn in direction.
I used to dislike Rest Proof Clockwork at first because of
it's minimalism.

not a big fan of plaid anyway. i thought it was nice enough
but its not going to encourage me to listen to more plaid. i
liked a couple of the tracks the rest were rather plain. 6.

interesting what you said about the orbital comparison, i
was thinking the same thing about a couple of the tracks
aswell.

7.5/10. It's good, but no double figure.

fallacy of life THEY'RE BOTH COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ALBUMS
CONCEPTS AND WHAT NOT

Now, is everyones' copy of spokes different in some way?
Because the title of this would lead me to think that.

No, I really didn't think that. I was just being picky. :)

you've just inspired me, I'm going to make a song with 900
different versions and give it a limited release, that's the
way to go

yeah, i love spokes. i know its hated by a lot of people i
talk to and then some, but, well, they can go eat a bunch of
hogwash and etc.

the reviews ive seen of it, nearly all of them, bash it in
some considerable way. but when one says it lacks focus, the
other says theres too much focus. nearly all of them have
different favorites. most seem to come to the agreement that
something is missing from it. people i talk to say it "lacks
charm", but i dont think it was intended to be a playful
album. so why are people comparing it to the playful works
when its not like that at all really? boggles the mind.
