i'm not a pro..... but i love photography...
cameras: canon eos 33 canon 300D
lenses: canon 28-135mm is usm canon 20mm usm canon 50mm usm canon 18-55 ef-s canon 55-200 usm
various filters etc
yeah, i'm a canon fan :-)
recommending: dunno - going for digital or analog? that would be the main question.

let's see if i understand what you're saying:
you want a digital slr but dont want to use any lenses fitted for analog systems
canon 300d has a "digital only" lens (the 18-55 in my list), but 300d is also compatible with any eos lens out there.
maybe you should get yourself a digital cam w/o the possibility to replace lenses?
canon ix400 is nice

some freelance work and bfa photography canadate at the largest lab based program in the west coast.
i've got three:
mamiya c330f with 55mm & 80mm lens canon older model slr with 50mm and 180mm holga s 60mm lens
i recomend going analog and manual, sabe the money from going digital, take a class, and buy a negative scanner for you computer, make high quality digtial prints at schools lab.

Although digital photography is great, and easy and quick. There is nothing like developing your own film, and printing your own prints the conventional way in a darkroom.

seriously, analog is the way to go it will give you more paitence when it comes to photographing, you will learn to appericiate the moments that slip past your lens cos you hAd to reload some film or change focal lenghts.

your skill level will be radikally higher in a few years too, if you have darkroom expeirence because you''l know what a perfect print looks like.

all the above mentioned gear would be great to have, but you'll find your self sticking to the basic. i do sugest you start with a wide lens say a 28mm for 35mm cameraa or a 55-60mm for medium format.

I think it's pretty difficult to take good digital pictures. It's like the light is always wrong, and my pix tend to get blurry and/or noisy.
I have a Nikon Coolpix 885, but I really want a "normal" canon or something.

digital cameras have a time lag from the moment the shutter is pressed to the moment the lens is opened to the moment the camera records the image, ugh! that is why most digital pics are not what is expected by the photographer.

true, but you can use polariods for the really important shoots to test out lighting and then go straight to high res slide film

Do you recommend using the highest image quality? (tiff-format) - it's just, on my 512mb flashcard I can only store 25 pictures in that format, and the pictures are like 9+ mb each.
I guess I know the answer to that question myself.... hehe

of course, i just meant to say that it is possible with the traditional method.
just to clear up any possible confusion, i mean polariod type 52, 55 film on a polariod back..

Depends what you want to do with the pictures
On my Coolpix 885, I take most of the pics in FINE mode, and XGA size - fine for printing A4 or 8x10

so far I haven't done too much with them at all, but I've experienced that when I take pictures in any mode less than the one that generates tif's, they become blurry and full of noise. Needless to say, I prefer sharp and crisp pictures :)
