it's not about how much it is, tolstoyed, it's the fact that
the series is about a funeral home, and the price is 666,
often associated with death/hell etc, so the price really is
perfect in regards to what the series is actually about :)

I have no idea. I really don't. Are HBO generally slow on
getting stuff out to DVD?

Second season in Finland too. This is such a great show. It
deals with issues other shows never explore. For example
gay Christian couples and the isolation of older people.

Ruth kicks ass btw:)

yeah, and last but not least, it deals with one of our
greatest taboos ever: death

How is death taboo, exactly?

Yea, that's strange how death is such a shameful thing. It
really shouldn't be. I guess this applies mainly to western
cultures. In Chinese culture funerals are generally much
more up-beat ceremonies than western ones.

I feel funerals should be more of a celebration of the dead
persons life.

Third Series was a bit of a let down...

for me right now THE SHIELD is blowing both THE Sopranos and
Six Feet Under out of the water...

ask yourself that question, Jarworski. In western society,
death is concidered a very negative and unnatural thing,
when it is infact thee most natural thing on earth. Well, it
is negative, I'll admit to that. But we are taught that
death is something negative in our culture.

Just look at how they 'celebrate' when people die in for
example countries that practice hinduism - death is
concidered a gift there, while here, it's concidered a
punishment

I'll agree mostly it's considered negative in "Western
society", although Christians would disagree. Unnatural?
Punishment? No. That be crazy talk.

I loved Six Feet Under's first two series but the third
played out like a soap opera with Rachel Griffiths character
missing for the most part, taking the edge away from the
proceedings.

The Sopranos is always solid but I was sad to see Tony's
mother pass on (she died in real life).

However The Shield really holds me to the edge of my seat
and gets better as the story and characters develops. Its
raw, ground breaking and edgy. Seeing gangsters behaving
badly is somehow acceptable but seeing cops behaving worse
than the gangsters is not only shocking but sadly true
seeing that the show is based in LA and we all know about
the LA cops. Here's a link to a synopsis

just on cable. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I think it's concidered very unnatural.

If it was concidered natural, it would also more likely have
been concidered a bit more positive. It's the negative focus
on death that gives it it's unnatural glow, like, "oh my
God, death is so terrible, why does people have to die?".
And by all means, it IS horrible to lose someone, I know,
but if one could begin to accept the fact that people DO die
because it's a way of life and that it is natural, then
maybe people won't see it as so frightfully negative.

It's negative because it brings out negative feelings.

My radar for new cultural thingys is not what it once was.
But thanks for the heads up.

We get it out of the library too, we practically have to
wrench it out of the sweaty little paws of the film students
here, but our advantage is that we live very close by and
get in first :)

I don't want to spoil it for everyone, but everyone gets
killed whilst shagging each other in the last episode, but
here's the twist - no-one's gay! And it was all a dream. Or
not. Maybe it was. Who knows?

Here's the latest - Nate's gay but thinks his girfriend
thinks he's bi-sexual. Josh dies performing anal sex with
himself. Diane get's married to a chimp and has conjoined
twins. Mario's wife gets a new dress. And Jessie has a dream
that we think is real but later on discover it's not. Every
single fucking episode.
