It just occured to me while watching bits of the digitally remastered version of Raiders of the Lost Ark of TV. I mean is he just naive and dumb or full blown rascist. The horrid racial stereotypes that he heaps on the natives of which ever country whose Areceological Bounty Indy is set to pillage and well, raid, are atrocious, he has even more contempt for them then he does for za Nazis. Not to mention the grotesque stereoptypes and accents that he ascribes to CGI forged, clwnish characters is in the Star Wars movies is just plain apalling. Hense I restate my question? Is he a rascist or just dumb? |

Raiders I think is probably less racist than Temple Of Doom, which was hugely criticised on release for it's racial stereotypes. I think it's less deliberate mocking, more ignorant Hollywood scriptwriting. Jar Jar on the other hand, I thought was pretty fucking diabolical. |

You've been watching too much Chasing Amy. Seriously though. There does seem an underlying hint of racism. The lack of positive black role-models in Star Wars is a start. Lando Calrissian doesn't count. He was just some git who sold them out then changed sides when he got the chance. The only other black person I can remember (who wasn't covered in fur) is a black woman who was actually a slave to Jabba the Hutt. The accents thing is true too. I don't know if it's a deliberate thing or just lazy scripting. Considering the amont of Nazi's he kills off though.......... |
