hehe

Have you had a look at the start up tab in mcsonfig? I find
there are sometimes crafty things that seem to get past
ad-aware

What windows are you running btw?

It's unlike you'll ahve anything of great importance in the
start up of XP

If your unsure the only start-up items you absolutely need
are:

ScanRegistry
TaskMonitor
SystemTray
LoadPowerProfile

Wich I don;t think appear in winXP msconfig any hoo

Mail me the list you have if you like and I'll let you know
if there's anything you really need

Do I need all these, pOgO?

- ccApp: antivirus-something

- ADVCHK: antivirus-something

- Updreg: uh, not sure, but related to windows update
maybe?

- Rundll32 AudCtrl: soundcard shit?

-Logi_MwX: mouse

- NvCpl: no clue...

- hpztsb06: printer

- Neowatch Startup: me firewally

Any of these I don't need??

I'd leave the rundll app. All the rest you can get rid of if
you don't want them auto starting when windows starts.

You can always go back in and re select them if they cause
you any probs

The mouse will probably need to stay too actualy, not sure
if it will totally stop working if you untick it or not

yeah, but it's kinda smart to have your firewall startup
automatically, innit? I know I'll forget to launch it every
time I start the machine..

And the virus shit, I guess that's part of the autoprotect
system, so that'd be stupid to remove too, right?

And, will my printer function if I remove the tick?

.

I have a ridiculous ammount of crap running on start up,
makes my pc slow and crap but I don't know what is important
and what isn't... o_o

like I said, if you know what they are it's up to you if you
want them to autostart

If your on Broadband I'd reccomend you have the firewall
autostarting cause you're perminantly connected, but if you
only have dial up there's no real need for it if your not
online

broadband here - think I'll leave both antivirus and
firewall at least..

but there are two Rundll apps.. what about them?

disable them and see what happens, if something stops
working re-enable them

I don't think they're anything major to do with the
OS

offline Cheffe1979 from fuck (Austria) on 2003-10-28 10:34 [#00921945]

you can disable them, no problem. anything important will
switch back on by itself.

leave out stuff you know that you have, like firewall (and
rundll32)

windows/updrg is crap as far as i know, the files for
windows update are in sys32

"at one point today some box trried to get me to download

i get these too - just an advertising cookie, usually for
fucking Gator. do you use ad-aware? it's free - it might
help.

adaware does remove gator cookies but not the program. you
need spybot for this
