blasphemy!

although, spokes is... but it's not representative for the
rest of their material

All the Plaid I heard just made me decide not to listen
further. I didn't think it was as *boring* as BoC, though.
Just less pleasant.

Oh good news about the album, i'm looking forward to it
all.

Do we know whether this will be all new material? Or a
collection of older material like Goegaddi. Titsworth? Surly
you with a site as mindbendingly excellent as it is would
know!

Great news, and I hope it's better than Geogaddi. I bet it
will. It's gonna be so damn ILLBIENT, baby!

all the exclusive info i've heard about the new boc album is
out of date now. i was told they'd release an EP last
september and an album this past january. obviously neither
happened (except for the single pressing they sent joyrex...
email him about it!! ;) ). the only other thing i know is
something archrival said he read in an interview (which
could be his way of saying he knows something we don't,
since there was no interview i know of), that they were
taking it back to their old style (which doesn't mean "old
recordings"), and then stuff that people like core and
joyrex have said, that they're going for a FRESH sound (and
absolutely no old recordings), which is a direct
contradiction to what archie said. so really it's anyone's
guess.

"illbient"

The use of this word should result in a ban/homicide. :P

autechre is the most boring act.

I've been told it will be their most "fresh" material to
date and will really surprise fans... I think they will
raise the bar considerably with this upcoming release, which
I would reckon is going to be Feb/March of next year (they
usually announce 5-6 months ahead of time it seems).

If the recent rumours of them going on an extensive live
tour are true, perhaps this sound is more akin to a
traditional band with electronic elements interwoven. That
would be wonderful, IMO.

What was the name of the program that someone here had, that
could record anything played by your computer, into MP3s?
That music70 sample is sooo nice. I had it on my old HD..
anyone?

I'll remain open minded till I hear it, but I really hope
they don't change so dramatically that it no longer is
recognisable as them :/

geogaddi's my favorite release from them. it's sort of a
bumpy ride from start to finish. there's lots of pleasant
headfuckery, and most of the tracks have tons of layers to
focus on. it's quite diverse as well. I can see the next one
being quite a departure. I'm sure it'll still sound like boc
though.

i am happy about this news - but would it kill them to give
us a bit MORE information? i already figured they'd release
something new next year anyway. :S

Geogaddi is superior to MHTRTC - it's more layered and
thought-driven. i believe they will get better and better as
time goes on.

i trust thet BoC will once again make a mindblowing album.
those that say BoC (and autechre) are boring haven't
LISTENED to them.

offline evolume from seattle (United States) on 2003-10-28 16:22 [#00922364]

For me, BoC is the most pleasant music to listen to. I
could pour gallons of that sweet aural honey into my brain
pudding and my spongey gray matter would just keep slurping
it up. It's like dissolving urea in water; it is
practically infinitely soluable.

I find BoC to be extremely organic in texture and sound for
an electronic act which is a refreshing contrast to much of
IDM which is often quite sterile, cold, and artificial.

I fully understand why BoC are considered by some to be
boring. They seem modest in their music production, tending
not to concentrate on intricate sequencer trickery, and
erratic meticulous drum programming. But I don't think that
was ever their intention. This music is just extremely
nice. The kind of stuff you can put on the stereo and just
go "ahhh.. yeahhhh.." and nod your head. It is often so
subtle and non-abrasive that it can be played in the
background and totally ignored. But it is also quite rich,
listened to with my eyes closed (preferably on a good set of
headphones) and fully absorbed.

This is why I love BoC and this is why their's is the music
I listen to most regularly.

and so, yes, i am eagerly awaiting any new Boards of Canada
release.

warm is not the same thing as organic... putting some fuzzy
retro filters on your synths and writing pretty melodies
does not make music organic; using live instruments does.

BoC are great at what they do, btw.

offline evolume from seattle (United States) on 2003-10-28 16:54 [#00922403]

i am not confusing warm with organic. I just meant that BoC
sounds like something natural and not synthetic. I realize
that technically organic means "live instruments."
But i wasn't looking to discuss semantics.

what about BoC's music sounds natural to you?

all of it.

lol

ok. i guess to further illustrate my opinion for ya's:
To me, BoC's music sounds like it was made by a warm blooded
animal. It has soul and color. In my head, it produces
images of nature; Sunlight breaking through gaps between the
leaves of trees; Forests changing color and shedding their
foliage; Little streams pouring over mossy rocks and
collecting in tiny pools to be gently warmed by happy mr.
sun.
I guess this is what i love about it. The fact that i know
that it was made using electronic equipment and computers
but it doesn't sound so mechanical and antiseptic.

when i listen to Autechre, for example, while their music
has soul, it always seems very synthetic and artificial to
me. That's cool, i like it, but it's kinda like, i'd rather
cuddle with BoC's fuzzy kitty than Autechre's pointy
robo-bug.

know what i'm saying G?
